A record 21.7 million American kids get free or reduced-price lunch during at school. But when summer vacation starts, the vast majority of them go without this essential, federally funded benefit. Fewer than 4 million kids -- or just 18% of those in the school lunch program -- are fed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's summer food program. While that's a record number for the 40-year-old initiative, many advocates and government officials say more needs to be done. "In the summer, when those school meals disappear, children find themselves hungry and with few options," said Duke Storen, a senior director at Share Our Strength, which aims to end child hunger. "It impacts their health and well-being and contributes to learning loss."

That is not true at all. Schools still give out free lunch during the summer and also Churches , you know those places which could be banned soon give out free food. Anyway what are they doing with all their welfare?
I wanted more kids but stopped at 3 because we could not afford anymore, so why do these people keep banging out kids for others to pay for is beyond me.
They feed them but use stamps to purchase the nicer food for themselves . I know at least a handful of people getting food stamps, kids get free food from the school in the summer and yet they have cash paid jobs.

She often told the following story; nearly every day the children would leave the table carrying their breakfast/ lunch tray and as they passed the garbage receptacles, they would scrape their entire meal into the garbage.
This was an everyday occurrence.

PS If you don't have to pay for it it has no value...
Pay poor women to have their tubes tied.
Save society.
Never mind the taxpayer-subsidized welfare parents who squander their welfare checks on smokes, phones and manicures.
Go after those self-sufficient parents who let their kids free range for NEGLECT.
Sounds OK to me. So many of these kids are significantly overweight. They could stand consuming less food for the summer. Maybe get out of the house and exercise with their friends instead of staying inside hooked up to their PCs, tablets and smart phones.
Pictures or it isn’t happening.
Just because kids aren’t eating school meals in summer does not mean they are all starving or even the “vast majority”
Then maybe their parents should feed them. Or is that my responsibility too?

(Actually I give it to my wife to spend, she’s just better at food shopping)
