In the events following the Charleston shooting, the discussion on racism has merged with a discussion of whether it is appropriate for the South Carolina Statehouse to continue flying the Confederate flag.
Jeb Bush gave his opinion on the issue when he said that despite being a symbol of Southern heritage, the flags context is outdated and belongs only in Florida museums. While other GOP politicians have touched on the issue with varying conviction, Mike Huckabee called it a state matter that was not an issue for 2016 candidates, while Rick Santorum refused to take a side on the debate.
On Mondays episode of The View, the side-stepping of the discussion did not sit well with the panelists. Whoopi Goldberg condemned the flying of the flag, saying that the with how long the flag has been glorified in the South amid decades of controversy, the only way to argue against the flags defenders is to compare it to the flag of Nazi Germany.
It would be like having the swastika flag flying on your next-door neighbor, said Goldberg. That is a part of history in Germany that they are struggling desperately to get away from.
If it continues to fly, the statement thats being made
is that We miss this really crappy part of history, and that is where the conversation has to begin.
Screw Whoopi! I’m a Good Ol’ Rebel https://youtu.be/YAfHigPsC_s
Whoopi [what a name!] would prefer flying a red flag with hammer and sickle.
I compare the Gay flag to Sodom and Gomorrah.
Fair enough?
Hmm, yes.
That whole situation angered me as well, because I saw my government and my media trying to railroad a man utterly, and they almost succeeded.
However, I never sought to take any action against anyone as a result, most especially not against people who had absolutely nothing to do with the situation.
Roof was obviously insane as well as evil.
I just find it ludicrous and preposterous that people in this country are holding to account for those actions of Roof a flag, and implying that a flag prompted this man to do this.
Just about as preposterous as someone saying a youtube video inspired certain actions in the middle east.
Americans really need to wake up.
Until the Nazis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.
As a general rule, if you want to get at the truth hear both sides.
Patriot's Theorem:
Anything that Whoopi supports is very bad for America.
Anything that she is against is therefore good.
It’s a rule of thumb that is true 98.77700065 % of the time.
Oh, get over yourself. If you think the desire of those pushing this agenda ends with eliminating the Confederate flag, then you are deluded. The same things are said about the US flag by many, and some of our founders were white slave owners and unworthy of respect, and on and on.
Just because some cowardly and opportunistic Republicans are jumping on this bandwagon does not make it any less just one more PC attack on tradition. If people don’t stop caving to these PC crusades, much of our US history will be rewritten or even eliminated.
I never thought that the flag was the end of the issue, nothing is ever the end of an issue.
Those that defend the CSA because our present opponent attacks the CSA flag does us little good and I fear much harm.
Ted was quoted “Pokin whoopi was like tossing a hotdog down the hallway”.
Who's defending the CSA? The Confederate flag means nothing more to a huge majority of white southerners than regional pride. And that's all it's meant probably since the early 20th century. I've never owned a Confederate flag and don't care to have one, but I do object to the same old anti-American and anti-tradition busy bodies trying to eliminate it from all public places.
Other people could pull out their list of things they'd like to see eliminated, but most aren't so narrow and intolerant as to think that everything that they don't care for should be banned.
Anytime there s a crisis or a big event it is an opportunity for the left to push their agenda.
In this case it will be for pushing gun control, and getting rid of the Confederate flag. - Tom
It’s just... I’m not for or against the flag, it’s just a piece of cloth. It’s an inanimate object.
It committed no crime.
America and Americans are just obsessed with utterly pointless symbolism, and in the process America has become the symbol of Stupid.
Pssst, you’re not supposed to say this out loud, but America is afraid of the black population. If they get ticked off, they riot and stuff.
I’ve heard Whoopie has had something like 6 abortions. That makes her a mass murderer.
“I am having a hard time understanding why after a person commits a heinous crime, the country is going nuts about a flag. I really dont get it.”
Because America has become silly.
I think you and I are a dying breed. We believe the two most important qualities in being a man are honor and courage. There was a time in America when such qualities were common. Now they are aberrations. Deo Vindice!
And the Mexican flag with Atzlan stickers are racist, too.
That is where this is going, lets all get together and sing kum b ya and lay all our guns down. geeeesh
Whoopie is a piece of N-$hit...
