Alexander-the-Not-So-Great: Hamilton Out on $10 Bill
Breitbart ^ | June 18, 2015 | Jarrett Stepman

Posted on 06/22/2015 11:20:10 AM PDT by Mozilla

The Treasury Department announced on June 17, that Hamilton would be replaced and diminished on the $10 bill in order to feature a woman to be announced at a later date. The goal is to have new bills out by 2020, the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment that guaranteed women the right to vote.

“Our democracy is a work in progress. We’ve always been committed to a more perfect union,” Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said according to CBS News. ”This decision to put a woman on the $10 reflects our aspirations for the future, as much as it is a reflection of the past.”

Secretary Lew said that Hamilton might not be outright replaced, but may be featured in a diminished role or on a limited number of bills. However, whether removed or diminished, shoving Hamilton aside on American currency is a slap in the face to the man often regarded as the father of the American financial system. Hamilton was arguably the greatest, and certainly most consequential, treasury secretary in American history. His statue in Washington D.C. stands right in front of the Treasury Department, which now insults his memory.

--snip--

That the Treasury Department under Secretary Lew would so shamelessly ditch the man who truly made it great is an embarrassment. Americans should be outraged that a man as crucial as Hamilton to our country’s history and existence is being so thoughtlessly shunted aside for the insistent campaign that a woman be placed on American currency.

Make it the Mayflower Madam. Low information voters will think it's historical.

Jeannette Pickering Rankin, the first woman elected to the US Congress (1916), even before the approval of the 19th Amendment, which granted the right to vote to all women who were US Citizens. A Republican from Montana, a state which had already granted the female suffrage to vote, she campaigned almost door-to-door throughout Montana, crisscrossing the state and appearing before church congregations, crowds at train stations, potluck suppers, remote one-room schoolhouses, and in meetings at ranches. And won by 7,500 votes, pretty convincing in thinly populated Montana. Maybe not 10% of Alexander Hamilton, but pretty impressive by any standard.

She sounds like an accomplished woman, but in my opinion the standard for appearing on currency ought to be higher than that. It ought to be accomplishments in regards to a significant impact on the nation.

Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson, and Franklin all contributed heavily to the creation of this nation and setting up it's institutions.

Lincoln and Grant were the winners of the civil war, and in my opinion ought not to be on currency either. Kennedy and FDR should most certainly not be on currency.

Jeannette Pickering Rankin fails the test of having had a significant impact on the nation, though she may have very well had a significant impact on Montana and herself.

Taking a black man off the face of the 10 dollar bill and replacing it with a woman! That affirmative action stuff always benefits the ladies.

It all started by some bratty girl sending the White House a letter complaining about no woman on currency....she wanted the 20 dollar but of course they care about woman’s pay and giving her a 10 spot. I find that very interesting.

I don’t understand the big deal. Barbara Bush has been on the $1 bill my entire life.

I’m guessing it’ll be a black woman too.

And preferably lesbian.

America is not and never has been a democracy.

You are absolutely correct, but when the author states that “Our democracy is a work in progress..." he is unfortunately correct also.

IMHO, we began the slide into a democracy with the 17th Amendment, when the Electoral College is abolished, which has been called for, the "work in progress" will have been completed.

Fabians, or Fabian Socialists, profess "revolution through evolution", they are a worthwhile study and the answer to so many things we are seeing unfold in front of our eyes today.

Hamilton wrote 51 of the 85 articles that make up the Federalist Papers. Can she top that? Or can any of the others whose names are being considered?

Abigail Adams has my vote.

She'd be good. Dolly Madison might be good too, especially if she could share the bill with her husband.

Someone just sent me a petition for Ayn Rand. OK, yeah, she was born Russian but wouldn't that send the Left into a shrieking fit of rage? Hey, does she even have to be American? What about Maggie Thatcher?

It won’t be the $2 bill, it will be the $3 bill. Have you ever heard the expression, “He is as queer as a $3 bill”?

We should all vote for Martha Washington.

Let’s see if they really are all about “women” being on the money.

The fact the Lew would replace Hamilton on the $10 just shows how clueless the current administration is. They know nothing of history or just don't care. He was the first Secretary of the Treasury.

Absolutely correct. This move could not possibly be more tone deaf.
