Brian Williams: 'I’m Sorry. I Said Things That Weren’t True'

“I’m sorry. I said things that weren’t true. I let down my NBC colleagues and our viewers, and I’m determined to earn back their trust,” Brian Williams said this morning in a stunning apology that accompanied the network’s announcement he is returning to the air but not the NBC Nightly News anchor chair. “I will greatly miss working with the team on Nightly News, but I know the broadcast will be in excellent hands with Lester Holt as anchor. I will support him 100% as he has always supported me. I am grateful for the chance to return to covering the news. My new role will allow me to focus on important issues and events in our country and around the world, and I look forward to it.”

2nd liberal ever to admit to lying in my lifetime.
i suppose it’s just a matter of interpretation but im still not convinced he is admitting lying. “I lied” is different than saying “I said some things that weren’t true”. one could simply be mistaken and that still falls under ‘not true’. I think this guy is still trying to skate around the issue that he is a self aggrandizer. he doesn’t want to publicly state “I lied to make myself seem bigger than I am in actuality”. if he said that then i’d be right there with you. certainly lying falls under “not true” but being incorrect or mis-remembering does as well.
And in BOTH cases, it was only after they were caught and the damage was done.

Most people never get this kind of chance to rebound from their own foolish error. I wonder if he is grateful for his second chance.
I used to wonder why major news outlets would not follow up on items like Elizabeth Warren saying she’s a Native American.
Then Brian Williams got busted, and I understood why.
