OPM Will Soon Notify New Wave of Workers Their Data Was Hacked
Government Executive ^ | June 16, 2015 | Eric Katz

Posted on 06/17/2015 7:18:07 AM PDT by don-o

The Office of Personnel Management will notify many more individuals their personal information was compromised than the 4.2 million current and former federal employees the agency initially informed, officials said on Tuesday.

The timing of the second round of notifications, as well as the number of employees who will receive them, is still unknown by OPM. The agency’s director, Katherine Archuleta, confirmed to a congressional panel that OPM discovered, in the course of looking into the initial hack it uncovered in April, a second hack that targeted background investigation and security clearance data.

Archuleta said it will notify the those who went through background investigations their data was compromised “as soon as practicable,” with OPM’s Chief Information Officer Donna Seymour adding the agency first had to identify exactly whose information was hacked. The initial notifications began going out June 8 and will continue through June 19.

Representatives from the Homeland Security Department, Office of Management and Budget, Interior Department -- where OPM’s hacked servers were housed -- and OPM all said they were taking steps to upgrade systems and boost security protocols. The other agencies noted, however, the hack was OPM’s responsibility. Archuleta said, in turn, she inherited “decades old” legacy systems that she was doing her best to modernize them.

“Well it didn’t work,” said committee Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, when Archuleta said she had taken steps to improve cybersecurity despite not responding to all of the IG’s recommendations. “So you failed, utterly and completely.” He added: “You made a conscious decision to leave that information vulnerable and it was the wrong decision.” Archuleta said OPM had instituted multi-step authentication and reduced the number of employees with privileged access to the network.

Also, of the civilians, many of those were active duty at one time or another.

Got a memo this AM that it might also extend to non-governmental contractor employees that hold clearances.

You mean like all of us who served in Uniform ? OPM manages our clearances as well, and thus we’ve been hacked, too. . .

Military is a slightly different issue. As someone previously mentioned, they went in under Reagan, got out under Clinton. I get it, and I'm sorry your info is at risk.

Those that I have no sympathy for include the civil servants, et al, that CAN make the choice to opt out of supporting tyranny, but don't. Federal Employees and Contractors that have supported this regime over the past 6 years deserve to have their lives completely ruined, as they are just as traitorous as the imposter in chief.

I have much love and respect for the men & women in uniform, particularly those that have endured the ignorance of the last 6 years. That said, let’s talk about Oaths of office? From ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC - here’s a hint: there’s a domestic terrorist in the White House, right this very moment! Why, of all the millions of soldiers and LEO and such that have taken oaths of office, is he not in prison yet?

Silence is consent. It matters not how the individual employees feel about the administration. If they are a part of it, they are the problem, period. If you don't agree with the administration, you leave so that you are not actively participating in the tyranny.

So, you would prefer all conservative civilian federal employees to quit every time someone you disagree with comes on board? That makes sense. How about they stay behind, and try to continue to work from the inside to prevent a total take over by totalitarians? There are many, and the United States is not just the President. You'd turn everything over to the folks who want to destroy you.

And your lack of action/participation can be considered consent as well.

As you said,

“The ONLY acceptable response, or participation, in this current administration would be what it takes to forcefully remove the traitors and jail them.”

So, what are you doing about it?

To begin with, I don't work for the gubmint. That, in and of itself, is a great start. As for further steps, well, I'm not real inclined to discuss it further. Suffice to say, I am working on it.

You really think that holds true? Bottom line? If the statists want to force you to do something, you'll do it.

I've always been more the loner type...been called a lot worse than 'feces' in my day. Lol. I'm tired of walking on eggshells around people. Sick of it. That's how we got where we are today. Truth hurts sometimes, and I'm sorry, but the bottom line truth is that anyone currently working as a Federal employee or Contractor is ACTIVELY SUPPORTING tyranny. Doesn't really matter how you slice or dice it, that's just the bottom line.

Well, I would point you to the history of the Order of Cincinnatus for the real answer, but the body that can remove the President from office has been severely lacking in backbone, likely due to the leadership of an Oompa-Loompa who has been abusing human growth hormone, and a wierd turkey-human hybrid.

So you do not pay Federal income taxes and break all Federal laws? If not, you are part of the problem too.

Are you a raving hypocrite or just another turd troll.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving group!

Talk about painting with a broad brush. Sheesh. No wonder Conservatives and Free Republic geta bad reputation from posters like you.

There are 2.1 million Federal Employees, from Shipyard Workders in our Navy to nurses at Walter Reed. Yes, there are Obam's IRS, the morons at the Dept of Education, but there are also FBI agents doing their best, and retired military who now work for the Defense Dept in training.

There are air traffic controllers, pilots, doctors, and electricians, and police.

Which of these do you specifically hate the most?
