A small white casket positioned near the pulpit held a little boy dressed in a white suit and bow tie.
A Power Rangers DVD rested on his chest. A Spiderman action figure sat nearby.
The innocence the scene invoked only made reality that much harder to stomach for the roughly 150 relatives and friends who came to a south Kansas City church on Monday morning to say their goodbyes to 3-year-old Amorian S.L. Hale.
Eight mornings earlier, a bullet killed Amorian as he slept in his bedroom.
Since then, family, friends and strangers have struggled to deal with grief and anger over his violent death at the hands of whoever who peppered his 67th Street and Walrond Avenue home with roughly two dozen bullets.
His mother’s sobs echoed throughout the sanctuary as mourners filed past the casket Monday morning at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Flowers and photographs flanked the casket.
His grandfather, Eric McKiney, spokes softly over the casket before letting out a yell and collapsing onto the casket.

Little Amorian - and millions like him - have a better chance with a thousand white cops and a hundred Baltimore police vans than they do with other Amorians.
I can only imagine the pain and grief. Amorian is in the hands of Jesus Himself now, never to shed a tear again.
Prayers for God to give them strength and trust in Him. And comfort from the Holy Ghost.
