Critics remain silent on Tony Abbott’s revival (Australia's conservative Prime Minister)

TONY Abbott’s astonishing poll recovery is so unprecedented, it’s caught critics with their pants down.

What a laugh it’s been this week, when Newspoll showed the Prime Minister beating Labor leader Bill Shorten in popularity for the first time in a year.

Let’s count the people who never thought Abbott would come back from the dead after February, when a third of his party voted to spill the leadership positions. For a start, his recovery clearly caught out one of his two main rivals until recently, Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull or Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop. Or both.

.....

Also caught out is Shorten, who bet the farm on Abbott staying as popular as herpes. He refused to reform Labor’s policies — particularly on bringing back a carbon tax and not turning back boats of illegal immigrants — to avoid dragging media attention from a Prime Minister in strife.

But now the media story is Shorten’s own weakness, leaving him with less authority to defy Labor’s Left and make the changes he should have made a year ago.

Back in February, it really did look like Abbott could be on the way out. Today, while he's not out of the woods by any means, there's certainly no atmosphere of doom any more, and attention is switching to the fact that the Labor opposition really doesn't seem to have any policies except to attack the government.

And the left wing media that was crowing about Tony Abbott's imminent demise, are now in disarray. And the leftists who hate Tony Abbott just because they hate their own special caricature of Tony Abbott are in despair.

Abbott is worthy of admiration for his policy on turning back boatloads of illegal aliens. Europe should follow his example before it’s too late.

Here’s a link that others may be able to reach:

Pretty cute what’s going on down there. Abbott wants terrorists sent back home, while most politicians don’t want to ‘insult’ Muslims (so they let the terrorists stay).

The Australian political ‘Establishment’ then goes on the warpath against Abbott by leaking the news that Abbott wants to send the terrorists home. They figure that will sink Abbott once and for all. Strange (to them) but their plan seems to have badly backfired.

Maybe the link doesn’t work. Either way, try searching on the headline on Google - that’s how I got the whole story.
