Former Imam Of Mecca's Grand Mosque: There Is No Escaping Reform To Bring Islam Back...[taqiyya]

In a February 22, 2015 article in the Saudi daily Al-Riyadh, Sheikh 'Adel Al-Kalbani, the former imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, attacked the extremism of the Islamic State (ISIS) and groups like it. He said that it takes more than mere words, condemnation, and even fatwas to halt the spread of ISIS's ideas and prevent young people from joining its ranks – it requires reform in Islam that will restore its original tolerant character.

Stating that Islam is fundamentally tolerant and that the Prophet and his Companions were lenient with those who disagreed with them, Al-Kalbani added that today the Muslims are shackling themselves to the strict interpretations by "unrivaled leading scholars" and see any other interpretation  as deviation from the straight path. Such strict interpretation, he said, serves extremists, who go so far as to behead those who disagree with them.

Al-Kalbani then called on clerics to step up their da'wa efforts and to spread the ideas of moderateness and acceptance of others, and to vary their approach in ways "that are appropriate to the spirit of the times but do not contradict the original spirit of Islam."

It should be mentioned that, in two articles he published in August 2014, Kalbani went even further in condemning organizations like ISIS and the ideology that gives rise to them. He said that ISIS is "a true product" of Salafi thought, and criticized Muslim clerics and Muslim society for failing to acknowledge this. He stated further that the call to blindly reenact the path of the Prophet Muhammad and of the forefathers of Islam stems from a faulty grasp of the essence of this path, and that Muhammad himself had rejected blind adoption of the perceptions of the past and...

Such profound taqiyya could also account for why this Sheikh 'Adel Al-Kalbani is now the former imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Stating that Islam is fundamentally tolerant and that the Prophet and his Companions were lenient with those who disagreed with them,

He must have read a different Koran and Hadiths than I read.

ISIS has the religion correct in my opinion as do the Wahabbists.

I don't know how you can interpret Islam any differently than subjugate, convert or kill all non - Muslims.

If you don't know how to do that, follow the examples set by Muhammed in the Hadiths. - Tom

it requires reform in Islam that will restore its original tolerant character.

You have to be completely delusional to believe that or you are just a liar doing propaganda for islam, which is allowed.

Seriously dude, just look at how the woman half of your population is treated and tell me how tolerant and caring islam is. It is time for free people everywhere to confront islam and it's evil every time it moves or speaks.

Apparently, there were two different periods in which the “scriptures” of the Koran were taken down. In the first phase, while living in Mecca, the “new” religion was first formulated, including many aspects of Judaism and Christianity, and preached most piously for “inclusion” and “tolerance”. The message was first well received, and a number of converts came to the new revelations. But soon, Mohammed Ali, being the abrasive personality he was (and also probably at the beginnings of his mental break that developed into schizophrenia), soon drew persons dedicated to assassinating him and replacing him. With a troop of supporters, he fled to Medina, where he built the first mosque, facing to his former location, Mecca.

From this point on, the paranoia took over, and the later writings included in the Koran were much darker and dedicated to gaining revenge on his enemies, justifying all kinds of harsh punishments and demanding total loyalty, or either slavery or execution of those who would not accept his leadership wholeheartedly and with great fervor. The return to Mecca was marked by this new savagery and intolerance, and from there, seeing a high degree of relative success, he and his growing army went on to conquest after conquest, spreading the faith not through persuasion and sweet reason, but by the command to convert, surrender as a slave, or die on the spot. For many people, this was a pretty stark choice, but the word of mouth that preceded his army often resulted in capitulation even before his arrival.

Until it hit resistance, organized and determined. Persia was a somewhat harder case, in that there was already a widely established religion, known as the Zoroastrians. A bloody and prolonged battle succeeded in driving the Zoroastrians out and into India, where a small remnant is till found.

But a part of Islam was itself transformed by this confrontation, and eventually a schism between the “original” Arabic form of Islam, the Sunni, and the Persian form, the Shi’a, which had incorporated elements of Zoroastrianism, developed and the two branches have been at deadly confrontation with each other for centuries.

Doesn’t change the very real fact that both forms of Islam are also declared enemies of all other organized religions on the face of the earth.

Islam was never “tolerant,” except occasionally for pragmatic reasons (that is, if the gang could get more money by making the infidels pay a tax rather than by killing them).

Islam was invented by Mohammed as a way to reinforce his military conquests. That is, his rag-tag, ISIS-like band of Arab caravan raiders conquered much more developed cities in the ME - during a time when Rome had collapsed, Constantinople was ineffective, and Christianity was divided by the sequels of Arianism and the other heresies that had spread through the ME - and Mohammed realized that claiming both civil and religious authority, with his own syncretist version of all the religions circulating in the ME (paganism, Christianity and Judaism), was the way to cement his power.

The collapse of both Roman civil authority and Christian religious unity undercut even the pagans, and left everybody defenseless against the absolutely ruthless Arabs.

“... Islam is fundamentally tolerant and that the Prophet and his Companions were lenient with those who disagreed with them, Al-Kalbani added that today the Muslims are shackling themselves to the strict interpretations.”

Could he be speaking of the tolerance of mohamhead writing orders to kill the unbeliever over 100 times in their unholy book.

The Bible’s Old Testament has a new covenant in the New Testament. There is no new covenant with their “god” to be found in a later writing that tells islamics to love thy neighbor. Just kill him instead.

The fact that it is historically imaginary, a call to reform Islam into something tolerant is something new -- instead of the usual line of BS about how Islam is tolerant, he's actually admitting that A) ISIS is part of Islam and that B) Islam has to change. That is new. Of course, he has little power to do anything about it, but it is probably being floated on behalf of the House of Saud, which always treads carefully due to the fact that the religious class has to approve their moves -- even the assault on the Grand Mosque back in the 1970s (when the self-proclaimed mahdi took it over by force of arms) had to be approved by the wahhabi.
