2 double shootings Sunday bring end to violent month
Baltimore Sun ^ | 6-1-2015 | Colin Campbell

hattered glass from the windows of a silver minivan and dozens of police evidence markers littered a West Baltimore street where police said at least two men were shot in a hail of bullets, the second double shooting in the city Sunday..

The shooting brought to an end one of the most violent months the city has seen in decades, with 43 people killed and 108 people injured in May alone. More people have been shot to death this month than any month since August 1972, when 45 people were killed.

It appears that Black Lives in Baltimore don't matter to blacks in Baltimore.

Hopey-Changey, Baltimore. This IS what you keep voting for, after all.

Actually black lives do matter in Baltimore, as long as the one with the gun is a cop, preferably a white cop..then they “care” but when its blacks killing blacks its YAWN!!! Baltimore is the progressive utopia, this is the life they wanted, no cops enforcing the law, actually Im shocked it was only 43 killed Im surprised it wasn’t more than 100

"More people have been shot to death this month than any month since August 1972, when 45 people were killed."

There's about 600,000 people in Baltimore today. In 1972, there was 900,000. Which means the murder rate is roughly 33% higher than in 1972.

It’s over 150 when you count killed and wounded.

Add to that the improvement in emergency medicine between 1972 and 2015. Many people who live today would have died in 1972.

When cops are not proactive, this is exactly what happens. Drugs, alcohol, armed young males and hot weather are a volatile mix. Good street cops know how to make timely interventions if allowed. They won’t if they know their backs are not covered.

I’m pulling for them to break the record!

(They’re just doing the job that American cops won’t do).

Add to that, you might recall NYC during the Dinkins regime (1990-93), the city murder rate hit about 2,000 per year (about 160+ per month). That was horrible (and one big reason Rudy was able to win in 1993), but consider that even with those numbers, the murder rate was still LOWER than Baltimore’s is now.

NYC had 7.3 million people in 1990 and those 2k murders in a year. Baltimore has just 600k (1/12th that of NYC then) today, and if the murder rate holds up, may get to 400-500 dead by the end of this year (and we haven’t hit the summer yet when it may explode). A murder rate of 1 per 3,650 vs. 1 per 1,200. That means NYC would’ve had to achieve a rate of 6,000+ murders per year to equal Baltimore’s at present.

They are getting what they wished for. They are so angry about alleged police brutality, that they wished they didn’t have to deal with police at all. They are getting to see what life is like without police. I hope some lessons are learned and taken to heart.

Maybe we can have Eric Holders conversation about race. We can ask why there is so much black on black violence in a city in which blacks are in charge of the power structure. By definition there is no racism there since blacks are in charge.

Brings back memories of 1972. I remember when Nate Colbert hit 5 home runs in a doubleheader. Reminds me of the days when baseball still played double headers. They are rare now unless they are rescheduling to make up for a rainout.

maybe this will wake up some people’s eyes to what mayhem these neighborhoods really are.
150 dead or injured is a disastrous number for a month.

Hot weather is the odd factor in this mix. I noticed this factor in DC when I lived around the region for 3.5 years. If you get a cold front with freezing temperatures for a week....there’s never a murder or shooting. You get temperatures up to around 95 degrees, and you might see five murders in one single week, and another dozen assaults.
