Donations From Around the World Pour in for Stray Dog ‘Fighting for Her Life’ After Her Muzzle Was Taped Shut for Days

Since horrific images spread of a South Carolina stray dog found with her muzzle tightly shut by electrical tape, donations and support from around the world have been pouring in for Caitlyn, the 15-month-old Staffordshire Terrier mix who was receiving treatment Friday at an emergency veterinary clinic.

And the reward shot up Friday from $1,000 to $6,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for what one official called ”the most malicious case of animal abuse I have seen in my entire career.”

Caitlyn — by all accounts a well-known and friendly stray — was discovered on a Charleston doorstep with her tongue sticking out between her teeth as the tape pressed her muzzle closed. Veterinary officials believe she may have been left in that condition — without the ability to eat, drink or pant — for as many as 48 hours over Memorial Day weekend.

“Caitlyn is in a lot of pain, her condition is critical, and her prognosis is guarded,” Charleston Animal Society Senior Director of Veterinary Care Dr. Lucy Fuller told WCIV-TV. “A large part of her tongue may need to be removed surgically if the tissue dies from the lack of blood flow. She may be severely disfigured, or the large amount of dead tissue may cause life-threatening complications.”

Actually, you’re right. My first post on this thread was simply a direct question to two posters who DO believe it’s a waste of money. Post 22 explains it. Sorry you missed it.

There was no sarcasm intended in his posting and it was very clear who it was directed to. And if you were a regular on these types of threads you would have realized that!

So I would suggest you go back under your own rock and keep your wise cracks in the peanut gallery.........Sheesh!

Long story short: a man sold his dog cheap because the landlord threatened eviction. The dog, Caitlyn, ended up being a stray. Someone used electrical tape around her muzzle, leaving her tongue out.

She wandered for days until the Charleston shelter got her there.

She’ll need surgery, as her tongue is necrotic. She may need surgery on her head/jowls, too.

The question is whether her present condition and the removal of part of her tongue are survivable.

People around the world are donating to help her and the people caring for her.

No one knows who did this.

Care to comment on all the foolish people wasting their money on a dog? I would think this would be an opportune moment for you both.

Nope. People do all sorts of dumb stuff with their money. Especially in the world with the internet.

Heart strings are amazingly easy to pull on some people and I’ll give you an example:

Three of our chickens were roosting on about 40 eggs, but they were in a roosting area a few feet off the floor. Well, 12 of them hatched and the chickens got all the chicks on the floor and now won’t roost any more. After a day I cracked one egg open and there was a fully developed chick, but I assume I killed it. But it prompted me to do everything I could to hatch them myself.

Just a half hour ago I was looking at a basket of 15 eggs and told my wife I felt really bad that they are almost certainly not gonna make it. This, even though they are just chicken embryos, for crying out loud. My intellect took over and figuratively cut those vestigial heart strings.

Human beings have a LOT of vestigial heart strings. Yes, even me. At least I see them before its too late. :-)

I don’t think he gets around or reads much.

I was thinking more along the lines of an old fashioned field phone generator and wire restraints.
You know; a high back chair, one wire restraint around the neck, both wrists and the ankles. Take about 2 or 3 weeks in a little mining shack I know about in the middle of the Mojave Desert.
