Latest US proposal for ethanol could have political fallout

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration's latest plan on ethanol, the corn-based renewable fuel, probably will not have a major effect on pump prices, but could have political reverberations in Iowa and other farm states in the 2016 presidential campaign. Under the proposed rule announced Friday, the amount of ethanol in the gasoline supply would increase in coming years, just not as much as set out under federal law. That approach drew criticism from ethanol and farm groups that have pushed to keep high volumes of ethanol in gasoline. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton has called for a robust renewable fuels standard while campaigning in Iowa, host of the leadoff presidential caucuses next year. Iowa produces more ethanol than any other state, and the renewable fuel has long been a powerful economic and political issue.

Yeah, I think I’ll stick to grain-based ethanol for personal consumption. (medicinal purposes, you understand?)

I have a radical idea: sell gas that is 100% gas. Novel concept, I know.

More ethanol to rot the gaskets, seals and sensors in your cars....because Iowa is important every 4 years.

Yes.....Iowa is far more important in the Presidential scheme of things it seems. Everybody knows which way California blows. Iowa, NH and all the other pandered to states in that bucket are a different story.

There is nothing redeeming about ethanol, period. I’ve rebuilt too many carburetors on 2 and 4 cycle engines and had to deal with the damned O2 sensors on 3 of my last three vehicles to believe it has any value at all. I finally just bought an OBD/CAN II reader/reset tool to turn the service-engine alarm off.

I don’t know much about it. But I suspect that its use make the local liberals and politicians feel good. :0)

Yes. But how does it directly affect Hollywood actors, directors and producers as well as the thousands of other overpaid public servants?

Never. ButI’ve used the in-tank pump unhooked from the fuel line.

Seems like you could make a lucrative living filling the need of rebuilding other people’s small engine carburetors. When you get lemons....

The Iowa Caucuses Have a Winner: Ethanol

Presidential hopefuls love the law mandating biofuel use, but there are encouraging signs in Washington that the business handout is losing favor.

March 25, 2015

At the Iowa Agriculture Summit earlier this month, most of the prospective Republican presidential candidates embraced the renewable-fuel standard, one of the worst examples of corporate welfare in America. This federal mandate props up the U.S. ethanol industry by forcing refiners to blend biofuels into gasoline. Despite the fact that it is an obvious business handout, White House hopefuls rarely attack the standard, lest they harm their chances of winning the Iowa caucuses.

unfortunately, it's not just the left.

I've always repaired my own stuff... Electronics (I have a BSEE and had a Class III electrical license), plumbing, HVAC and appliances. I've done it all.

I've become pretty adept at carburetor rebuild kits, replacements (from Walbro) and a host of other 2 cycle complaints. The problem is that it is only marginally less costly to repair a garden/other blower, trimmer, etc. than it is to buy a cheap new one. I just cannot keep myself from giving up on a repair - it is my nature to try and fix..

Just after they’ve landed in the G5 at Cannes and off to the premiers to pontificate on how we all (except them) are needlessly squandering and wasting our precious resources.

Iowa will grease all the palms required to keep ethanol from corn a requirement.

I have had my tag for a long time.

The trick on small engine issues....run the 4-strokes out of gas before storing.

For the two-stokes, either buy some non-alcohol premix from the dealer, or go to the airport and get some avgas, and make up your own.
