Ted Cruz is not only a U.S. senator and presidential candidate; he's also a gamer.

He tweeted a screenshot of his Candy Crush screen Thursday. He's on level 357, contrary to a Daily Beast report that he had hit level 217, which he told MSNBC in 2014). "The fruits of time between stops in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina," he said in a Facebook post.

Cruz told the Daily Beast he also plays "Plants vs. Zombies," "The Creeps!" and grew up playing "Galaga," "Space Invaders" and "Centipede."

"I play with my daughters," he said. "One of the fun things that I do with Caroline and Catherine is we get on the iPhone or the iPad and play games. Drives my wife crazy."

Actual Tweet at site. May seem insignificant- but it's really not.

OK, I'll bite: Would you mind explaining why this is not insignificant.

because it shows a very human side of him playing video games with his daughters to counteract the image of the monster that the press is trying to make? I could be wrong

I want to know what his thoughts of Plants vs Zombies 2 is. Did you know there’s going to be a new “Lost City” part in a week or so?

Low info voters, millenials. It is insignificant in the big scheme of things, but to the more dopey in society, it makes him seem hip.

As far as the Left is concerned, conservatives are sub-human, atavistic, culturally stunted and otherwise out of touch with modernity. Cruz here stymies this false caricature. Even on this insignificant matter, he shows that he will not allow the Left to create the narrative.

Also, Sen. Cruz has stated that his priority is to mobilize a youth corps to spearhead his campaign, as he did in Texas.

Demonstrating that he is knowledgeable of the popular youth culture is one more arrow in his quiver, and one less in his media detractor’s.

Sorry friend, can’t answer your query. I play Hearts, FreeCell, and chess— otherwise, I know from nothing.

His taste in vintage arcade games is classic, but pedestrian. All shoot from the bottom to the top games. No scrolling shootouts or maze or ladder games.

Skyrim is Life. It’s the one place left uncorrupted by liberalism. Or sure there’s the occasional skooma dealer or corrupt pol. But then, there’s Lydia. And I have burdens...;)

Sorry Ted, playing “Candy Crush” does NOT make you a gamer...

Play Civilization until 2:00am...
Play AD&D until 3:00am...
Own a copy of “Fire in the East”...
Attend Historicon, or Origins...
Know the definition of Grognard...
Own an Avalon Hill or GDW game...
Know who Lord British is...
Know who Kyle Katarn is...
Know who Master Chief is...

THEN you are a gamer...

Screw that. He lacks an arrow to the knee and as such, is unqualified for higher office.

Am I one of the only people alive that preferred Tempest to the other ‘classic’ arcade games? I never see it mentioned on game threads when the old names come up. In our little berg it was THE game to play.

The brat in the AWFUL Steven Spielberg rendition of "It's a Good Life" in the Twilight Zone movie was playing it in the beginning. My high school economics teacher preferred it as it was pure abstraction.

Personally, I found the color vector graphics unengaging, though better than the vector Battlezone.

Tempest may have suffered because any upgrade kits required a special paddle controller, rather than the more common joystick arrangement, plus the need for a vertical color vector screen. Tempest was DEFINITELY top 10 in the year it came out, with lots of serious competition. The only other color vector games that come to mind were Star Trek (Sega), Star Wars (Atari), Space Fury (Sega) and Asteroids 3 (Atari), though there were others that don't come to mind.
