A French bartender has received a suspended jail sentence after he was convicted of manslaughter for letting a man down 56 shots during a drinking contest that led to his death.

Renaud Prudhomme, 56, broke the in-house shots record last October at Starter, a bar in the central French town of Clermont-Ferrand.

He had spent the evening with his daughter and some friends who helped him home in his inebriated state, but they soon had to phone emergency services. He died in hospital the following day.

Renaud Prudhomme, 56, broke the in-house shots record...

Well see, there is that.

I didn’t think 56-year olds were stupid enough to do this sort of thing. Usually, it’s some 20-year old kid in college that is dumb enough to do something like this.

That’s more like assisted suicide.

when I was 18 I drank about 20 shots of tequila in a money contest. And then I played Monopoly and went out to the club. I don’t remember how the Monopoly game turned out

Also, as he has at least one child, no Darwin Award. But he DID break the in-house shots record. Maybe they can put that on this tombstone...

“I didn’t think 56-year olds were stupid enough to do this sort of thing.”

I think somewhere on the way to 56 you lose your ability to reason, or at least lose count of how many you’ve had.

If you can do your age in shots— Cool!

Similar to that idiot radio station that did the “Hold Your Wee for a Wii” contest and the woman died of water intoxication. I believe a nurse even called the station and told them they needed to knock it off but they ignored her. People are so freaking stupid.

Maybe they should change the name of the bar to “Ender”.

How many more shots did he have on the way home and at home before his “friends” had to call an ambulance?

Probably.

But someone was counting.

Otherwise, 56 is just a speculation.. ;-)

But someone was counting.

The bartender for sure was counting. Somebody had to pay for the drinks.

See? - this is why I stop at 55 shots.

There has to be a Guinness record for this. Of course, the record witnesses would have to verify the capacity of the shots.

A shot is about 50 ml and there are 15 in a standard 750 ml bottle. So this gentleman drank almost 4 bottles of booze. No wonder he died.

"But someone was counting."

Someone was keeping count for Clark Griswold, too. :)
