Texas flooding puts Cruz, GOP in bind on climate change

Washington (CNN)The heavy flooding that's overwhelmed Texas and killed more than 30 people has put Sen. Ted Cruz in a bind on climate change.

The Republican presidential contender has held two press conferences over the past two days to address the flooding and the government's response. At each one, he was asked about the impact of climate change on natural disasters like the Texas flooding, and at each one, he dodged the question.

"In a time of tragedy, I think it's wrong to try to politicize a natural disaster -- and so there's plenty of time to talk about other issues," he said in response to a question on his views on climate change during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

"I think the focus now is on caring for those who have lost their lives and lost their homes," he said.

At least 31 people have died in Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma from the storm since this weekend, while another 11 remain missing in Texas. Cruz promised to do all he could to ensure that Texans get access to the resources they need during the recovery.

But his reluctance to answer questions on climate change mark a much more cautious approach to the question than his comparison in March of "global warming alarmists" to "flat-Earthers."

"It used to be [that] it is accepted scientific wisdom the Earth is flat, and this heretic named Galileo was branded a denier," he said in an interview with the Texas Tribune.

Cruz also argued that "global warming alarmists" aren't basing their arguments on facts, because "the satellite data demonstrate that there

Why? Climate changes occur regularly. This idea that we will all die because of man made temperature change is pure horse manure. Only idiots believe that and thus most liberals and democrats are idiots.

Global warming caused George Bush. George Bush caused the flooding. The flooding caused global warming...

I mentioned that fact to a fellow passenger on a recent flight to Dallas. He was from California, and marveled at the lakes surrounding DFW. I said, “Texans are a lot smarter than you think.” He had to agree with me on that.

Funny..., I remember flooding in Hitchcock, Galveston and parts of Houston back when the fear mongers were sure we were heading into a catastrophic ice age. I got good at driving through waste deep water to get to work. Nature happens, and attaching the bogus scare of global warming to everything turns climate science into a joke.

There is only one natural lake in Texas, for those who do not know this. That would be Caddo Lake in SE Texas.

While it is true that Caddo Lake is the one natural lake in Texas (all the others being man-made), its location would be more accurately characterized as being in Northeast Texas, I think.

I admit, because I believe that one of the three descriptors of leftism, besides being non-science based and superstitious, is that they are hysterics.

Therefore CNN is their live streaming, free- association hysteria on display. And I who like disaster flicks and novels tune into them when something sets their hair on fire.

But now they can’t even be my crack. We are looking at new cable bundlers for our internet, phones and television, and I think CNN is an additional option for a higher fee.

I like exercising on my recumbent bike with CNN on because they are a hoot. And then I run to my computer and report to FP. It is like I am spying behind enemy lines.

So you don’t think that the numerous welfare replacing fathers and building a leach mentality is not a problem with the inner cities?

Oh God. I had to go back and see what you wrote. You didn’t obviously. You said that when airlines are delayed that CNN viewership goes up. That is the dumbest thing with regards to ratings I have ever seen. You could have a million people watch in an airport and it would have ZERO effect on ratings because that is not how it works at all.

I read in the local liberal rag that Meteorologists are predicting a slower than average hurricane season. Thank God, global warming is over.
