San Antonio man caught up in Waco melee has lost his job at USAA

A San Antonio man has lost his job because he’s unable to post bail after he was arrested in the aftermath of the biker melee in Waco.

Diego N. Obledo, 40, doesn’t have a motorcycle but was arrested after driving friends in his Toyota Venza to the Twin Peaks restaurant where the brawl broke out, according to San Antonio lawyer A.L. Hernden, who is helping the family.

Hernden said Diego Obledo was “just standing around” but was caught up in the sweep as 170 people were arrested by Waco law officers. More than 30 are from this area.

Obledo has since been fired from his job at USAA, where he was an appraisal review specialist and three months away from being vested, Hernden said. Obledo is not in any gang, but accompanied friends in a motorcycle club for a meeting meant to discuss motorcycle laws and safety, according to Hernden.

“It’s terrible,” Hernden said. “He doesn’t even have a criminal record and is a family man. He’s got three kids and is the sole breadwinner.”

I will.

Thanks for the confirmation.

The correct answer from a Conservative would have been, “You’re right”.

How someone can be emotionally-attached to a company and not moved enough by an injustice to change in a market with >500 insurance companies is beyond me...

So I must presume the bikers are innocent until proven guilty as charged by factual evidence presented in a court of law and decided upon by a jury of their peers.

Since when did the Constitution mean a goddamn thing any more?

1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 8th Amendment violations are all over the map here.

Good fodder for those who get all sticky and excited about "mowing down" "criminal gangs" and especially love the gleam on the boot which comes down on the face of their fellow men.

It's almost as if they don't think it can go both ways.

I guess I should have written my comment clearer, with simpler language and at an 8th grade reading level for folks with limited reading comprehension.

See don-o’s post #16 for clarification—he gets it.

If you missed this, then you have not looked into this story AT ALL.

In fact, I have looked into all that I can find. I would appreciate finding out FACTS that I have missed. Got any that can be sourced beyond, "I read somewhere...."?

Hey, guess what jack-ass, this is still a free and (sort of) a capitalism based country. I choose the people and businesses I do business with-—you don’t get to have a vote on that. And guess what...I’m not “emotionally-attached to my insurance company”.

So I’ll remain free to make MY life choices and I’ll leave you free to make YOUR life choices. So go hug your trees if that is your wont; but don’t expect to be successful in motivating me to hug your trees.

What would the media response be if a bunch of white police officers were involved in a “mowing down” of nine MS-13 and Mexican gang members? I think we can be pretty certain that the police would be vilified by the media. Where are the anti-police media in this case?

Yours is the official line.

There are also videos of guys, no rockers, no 1% patch, just standing there and suddenly getting beat by cops because they were also bikers.

Go use youtube.

Maybe. They wouldn't be vilified by me though.

Where are the anti-police media in this case?

They posting right here on FR. I'm sure you can recognize them.

True that! I worked in the Rampart area in the 70’s. The cops were the biggest gang around.

Why were they there?
Why were “just guys” “standing around” at a meeting of criminal gangs? Do you really believe this is a valid question?

As I stated, I am a biker. I do not associate with the 1% element, I do not “stand around” 1%er functions, get togethers, rallies, etc.
That is why there is no current $1,000,000 bond on me or will there ever be.

The cops should have mowed them all down.

Fool.

No dope dealing criminal scumbags. Sounds like a good place. What's not to like about it?

Once the government decides it has the power to "mow down" people just because they have decided they are "scumbags", guess what happens to YOU?

As far as the Obama administration is concerned, ALL right-wingers are "scumbags".

Before granting the power to kill fellow citizens to government entities, think LONG AND HARD about what that power would do in the hands of people who don't like you.

Yep.

First they came for the meth-dealing street gangs.

Then they came for the fishmongers and upholsterers.

“Why were they there?”

Well, it was a pretty day, a bar that specializes in attractive waitresses and which had a giant sign saying “welcome bikers for bike weekend 2:1 drafts.”

Since when did the Constitution mean a goddamn thing any more?

This is Texas, and we still believe in our rights under the Constitution and Bill of Rights to restrain an over-reaching government. We are very concerned about keeping those rights. In a way, Texas is the last stand against those who would destroy our state and way of life in the name of liberal socialism and nationalism.

You are correct in that there appears to be violations everywhere in this incident. Unless there is factual evidence to the contrary, justice is not being given to these men.

In Texas, we don't give a damn about how other states think we should deliver our justice. Also, we don't give a damn what liberal socialists in Washington think about us either. We want to be free to live as we see fit under our Constitution and Bill of Rights. As we choose and elect our representatives to state and federal government, we expect them to fairly represent us, not some political party.

We had a Republic, a Constitution, and a Bill of Rights before we joined the Union of States in 1845. We have a unique heritage having experienced the governments of Mexico, Spain, France, and others. Therefore, we do not wish to submit to any tyrannical acts by our government and we're getting pretty pissed.

So we will be watching very closely to see how this situation plays out for everyone involved.

2 easy questions;
1. Have you ever been in an establishment (bar, restaurant, mini-mart, etc) and about 100 obvious gang members come in?

2. Did you stay?

If the answers are yes, no - then you’re part of it or suicidal.
If the answers are yes, yes, then you’re smart enough to not put yourself in that situation.
I bet the answer to #1 is no, which would mean that you have very little experience with any type of gang element.

Biker hangouts (of any type) are not a great place for Orthodox Jews, given the tendency towards Stahlhelm as headgear and the SS tats you all tend to sport.

Nor are places that serve pig ribs. So no, never been.

But my understanding is that 1%ers make up 1% of the biker population and were a distinct minority at this gathering.

In short, 1%ers invaded an otherwise peaceful gathering.

You can say that, but the actual article, if you had read it, was about the man not being able to bond out.

Either way, I clarified to your goof-ball interpretation of the article in reply in #18.

It is not USAA'a responsibility to provide the man with a bond or give him special allowances if he can't show up for work because he is in trouble with the law.
