[California:] Davis ordinance seeks middle ground in sugary beverage debate

Do you want water or milk with that?

Servers at Davis city restaurants will soon be asking that question to customers ordering kids’ meals with beverages, under a new ordinance designed to discourage sugary soda consumption.

The ordinance, passed on a unanimous 5-0 vote Tuesday night, will require any Davis restaurant that offers a meal-with-drink kids’ menu to make water or milk, not soda, the primary option. Parents can still request soda at no extra charge, but must specifically ask for it.

By Sept. 1, Davis restaurants must prove compliance with the city ordinance by submitting a copy of their menu to city staff, showing they do not offer kids’ meals or do not offer soda as the automatic first choice.

We did not have the western diet that we do now until a few decades ago and before that we were thin.

Basically and white food is bad.

Sugar, pasta, all bread and so forth.

The objective is to keep moving the middle ground left ward until they get their way completely

Davis' Toad Tunnel is a wildlife crossing that was constructed in 1995 and has drawn much attention over the years, including a mention on The Daily Show. Because of the building of an overpass, animal lovers worried about toads being killed by cars commuting from South Davis to North Davis, since the toads hopped from one side of a dirt lot (which the overpass replaced) to the reservoir at the other end. After much controversy, a decision was made to build a toad tunnel, which runs beneath the Pole Line Road overpass which crosses Interstate 80. The project cost $14,000. The tunnel is 21 inches (53 cm) wide and 18 inches (46 cm) high.

The tunnel has created problems of its own. The toads originally refused to use the tunnel and so the tunnel was lit to encourage its use. The toads then died from the heat of the lamps inside the tunnel. Once through the tunnel, the toads also had to contend with birds who grew wise to the toad-producing hole in the ground.[citation needed] The exit to the toad tunnel has been decorated by the Postmaster to resemble a toad town.

Stupid Liberals/socialist/communists.

Excuse me, city of Davis, if kids wants a sugary drink, it shouldn’t be your - or any government - concern. My boys drinks sugary drinks, but they drink milk, juice and water, too. They are all thin, because unlike parents who let their kids sit in front of an XBOX or the TV, my boys are active.

Legally, an adjective used to describe food by adding a “y” on the end of a noun means the food does not have to contain whatever it is. Therefore “buttery” foods do not have to contain any butter, and “sugary” drinks do not have to contain any sugar.

Generations of retired education professionals, are infectious in Davis. This incestuous academia, will eventually die of no growth in thoughtful action, brought on by the purpose of life... to grow

The Kalifornia dairy industry would love to see milk vs soda anytime.

NO, that was the least unlikeable part of your post. My bet is that you “talk to the stuff in the toilet” before you flush.
