Cruz Catches Obama Covering for Iran...Again
Conservative Review ^ | May 22nd, 2015 | Daniel Horowitz

Now that Congress has passed the faux Iran accountability bill (Corker-Cardin), Obama has leverage to continue appeasing Iran at breakneck speed.  He is taking full advantage of his newfound legitimacy under the guise of securing congressional input.

Previously chronicled at Conservative Review, this administration has taken absurd and dangerous acts over the past two years in order to align with Iran.  Earlier this year, Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, omitted any mention of Iran and Hezbollah in the annual assessment of terror threats.   Now, the administration is refusing to publish the annual report of Iran’s record on human rights.   The report was due on February 25 – nearly 3 months ago - yet they have failed to produce the document.

Since the administration has not been forthcoming with the information on both Iran's abysmal human rights record and military adventurism they are required by law to produce, Congress owes it to the nation to demand it before we can judge any nuclear deal President Obama may strike with Tehran.Sen. Ted Cruz

Last week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry demanding a copy of this report.  Cruz notes in the letter that Iran’s human rights record and their continued refusal to release American hostages in particular, are relevant to the upcoming nuclear deal and should be made public well before the June 30 deadline for a final agreement.

In addition, Cruz sent another letter today asking Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter why the administration has not released the Defense Department’s Annual Report on the Military Power of Iran.  That report was due almost four months ago.

Despite the fact that negotiations are focused on Iran’s nuclear program, Cruz rightfully believes Iran’s behavior and aggression are relevant to forging any deal. “The Obama administration has insisted on treating Iran's pursuit of a nuclear weapon in isolation from Tehran's long history of dangerous behavior,” Cruz told Conservative Review. “But I believe the mullah's brutal oppression of their own people and violent aggression abroad are part of a larger pattern that makes any deal over their nuclear program that leaves them on the path to a bomb unacceptably reckless. We are talking about the basic security of the American people here--not to mention that of our closest allies.”

This is yet another instance in which the Obama administration has remained deafeningly silent about Iranian belligerence in an effort to play interference for Ayatollah Khamenei.  Just this past week, Iran has announced it will not submit to inspections of their military installations.  They also said any inspection from the IAEA must be preceded by a 24-hour notice.  Yet, Obama has remained silent.

Additionally, last week Iranian war ships fired on a Singapore-flagged oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, in yet another sign that Obama has given them free reign over international waters.

Between Iran’s ramped up support for Hezbollah, their continued expansion of their ICBM program, their takeover via proxy of parts of Yemen and Iraq, and their illegal attacks on international ships, there is a clear need for an assessment of their military power and operations.  Yet, Obama is preventing Congress from seeing the truth about Iran’s aggression and his appeasement of their terror activities.

How much longer will Republican leaders in Congress remain complacent about Obama’s appeasement of Iran?  Shouldn’t this be a priority for Congress after the Memorial Day Recess?  Cruz certainly feels that way.

“Since the administration has not been forthcoming with the information on both Iran's abysmal human rights record and military adventurism they are required by law to produce, Congress owes it to the nation to demand it before we can judge any nuclear deal President Obama may strike with Tehran,” said Cruz.

If anything is worth their time, shouldn’t it be this?

Put some power into Congress and jail one of them for contempt, Kerry or Carter.

Where is YOUR member of the House and Senate while this administration refuses to obey the law in issuing these mandated reports? Every Senator should have signed these requests.

I have a great deal of respect for Daniel Horowitz and Conservative Review. To write this article about Ted Cruz, highlights the fact that he always seems to be ready to take action and I wish more articles about his participation would be written.

We have been warning folks, for weeks, that the above situation is exactly what legal mandates requiring “verification”, by the chief executive, of certain conditions/situations amount to in practice -zero, zip, zilch, nada. With or without bureaucratic delays they will report whatever fits their diplomatic & foreign policy objectives, not letting important facts or expert opinion to the contrary stand in the way.

What the Obama administration is already doing with respect to reporting on Iran and its relationships with terrorists, you can be assured they will do with respect to “verifying” the mullahs in Tehran are in compliance with any agreements made with Iran.
