Authorities say U.S. military jets have escorted an Air France airliner to New York’s Kennedy Airport after a threat was made against the flight.
The FBI says the jets scrambled Monday morning after an anonymous caller claimed a chemical weapon was aboard the aircraft. …

They’d have cleared the air space along its route and gotten the plane to a safe spot (such as the ‘isolation’ areas shown here), well away from other planes, cities on the coast, etc. IF there were a chemical/explosive on board, they would work to limit loss to that plane and its passengers/cargo only rather than a larger ‘audience.”

Two flight have now been forced to make emergency landings at JFK after threats of ‘chemical weapons’ on board
Air France Flight 22 was escorted to JFK airport in New York City and landed at 10.17
Since then threats have been received concerning a Saudi Airlines flight and an American Airlines one
The Saudi flight from Jeddah has since landed safely
Security screening procedures expected to cause travel disruptions for thousands of passengers over the next couple of hours
