Rush Limbaugh Attacks Obama's Trade Agenda
The Huffington Post ^ | May 25th, 2015 | Zach Carter

Conservative talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh slammed President Barack Obama's Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal on Friday, telling listeners, "The odds are the United States is gonna take it in the shorts."

Limbaugh argued Republicans shouldn't do Obama any favors by helping him pass a secretive trade agenda that his own party does not support.

"Republicans are providing the necessary push to get it passed, which kind of bothers me," Limbaugh said. "Since it's an Obama deal, the odds are it isn't good. Since it's an Obama deal, the odds are the United States is gonna take it in the shorts, as we have on so much of the Obama agenda, both domestic and foreign policy."

A host of tea party groups have opposed Obama's trade agenda for months. But Limbaugh's entrance into the debate significantly disrupts Republican leaders' hopes of securing a deal with Obama by overriding objections from House Democrats, given the radio host's substantial influence over conservatives.

And why did Ted Cruz vote for this?

I believe it is getting harder and harder for Rush to sell the GOPE to his listeners. Even the most newest conservative converts and naive GOPE voters who listen to him can see the whats going on here.

Rush seems to finally get that the globalists running the world are never going to turn back from where they’re driving us. At least not in our lifetimes.

And just last week the Mexican government sued the US government in the WTO (really, the US government subject to the authority if WTO?!?!?) to overturn Federal country of origin labeling for fresh foods.

Unfair to Mexican tomatoes and beef. It seems the US consumer prefers American vegetables and beef when they can find it.

How long before it's against the law to label baby formula with country of origin? We ALL trust China and Viet Nam to ensure the highest cleanliness and safety for baby formula, right?

They wield a lot of power...against conservatives. The question is why do conservatives keep voting for them? The answer goes back to the amount of power they wield.

There are conservative Republicans, but they’re really really stupid, naive, or dangerously out of touch. I have a relative who works for a conservative US congressman. He just got elected in November. My relative said, “Congressman ____ told me only bills that Boehner and McCarthy support get passed.” He said it like it was some revelation. I said, “I could have told him that back in January before he voted for Boehner as speaker.”

"And why did Ted Cruz vote for this?"

I don't know. You should ask him.

Maybe he will change his mind.

The deal itself is irrelevant at this point.

The secrecy is the ONLY issue. We have:

A trade bill locked in the basement. No one can take notes when allowed to view. Anyone leaking details will be prosecuted.

A POTUS who lies about details in order to sell a bill to the American public.

Reassurances from GOP members saying the bill will not allow Obama unlimited power. All deals brokered by Obama must have approval of Congress.

Tell me when has that happened before? We are waiting for SCOTUS to rule on subsidies because the ACA bill said only states operating their own marketplace are allowed subsidies.

An immigration EO bypassing the Constitution and the WH defying a court order not once but twice regarding the implementation of the EO.

The list goes on & on. Obama cannot be trusted. Leadership betrayed the voters who gave the the majority of both Houses of Congress, yet they say trust us. It's a good bill. We can keep Obama in check.

They are not idiots. They think we are.

So its the American Workers fault?

Like all the SCE IT workers who got outsourced to H1B’s

I know an Engineer who had to train his Foreign replacement 2 times. He gave up being an Engineer to be a teacher. That is not a gain for the economy.

Ted Cruz voted for the trade deal. hey Ted what is in the deal! How much were you paid by Obama to vote Yes? Just wonder is the UN getting its Agenda 21 in place in the US. how about the Human rights Act of 1946 guartening Universal Health Care, as the US never signed the accord. What other deals did the trade deal make with US Gun rights. Come on Ted give us answers as the documents are closed to public disclosure! You have to vote for it to find out what is in it. where did we hear this before OdumboCare. How is that working out for America. Crap sandwich Once Again.

"Distorting markets with tariffs etc. won’t get us anywhere but stagnation."

The market is ALREADY distorted...wage disparity...social welfare disparity...tax disparity...health, safety and environmental disparity.

Tariffs are a way to bring back balance.

We don't live in a Smithsonian Capitalist fantasy land. We live in a world of nations with wildly differing social and economic structures...interwoven with determined mercantilists.

If we do not protect our interests, we will cease to exist.

This TTP Obama trade deal is a trojan horse. It’s disguised as “free trade” What It really allows is for Obama to flood the USA with an unlimited number of 3rd world immigrants ...

This Fast track gives Obama power to make treaties that override U.S. laws. It’s the destruction of the republic. Proof here :

Do you have some evidence that those NAFTA cases and trade court rulings are fiction? Or are you just blowing smoke by saying you don’t like the source? Never mind, I know the answer.

Here's a recent gem from your link:

Building Power through Electoral Efforts: Approaches to Independent Political Action | Solidarity

This article is based on a talk given by the author at the recent Future of Left/Independent Politics Electoral Action conference in Chicago, May 2-4, 2015.

Those of us who want to see progressive social change in America view electoral activity not as end by itself, but as an important tool. Electoral activities serve three purposes:

  1. Effecting change through the government or state. While we understand that government is not truly independent of the strong social forces in our society, it is also possible for a progressive movement to make limited advances by winning government office.
  2. Educationally using campaigns to get ideas across to the public.
  3. Increasing consciousness through struggle. We understand that being involved and taking ownership of a struggle opens people's minds to challenge previously held assumptions and ideas about who are real allies and real enemies, what is needed, and what is possible.

I want to look at the different models that have been discussed at this conference in terms of understanding their strengths and weaknesses with respect to these three uses of the electoral activity tool. These models are, roughly:

  • Socialist campaigns like those of Socialist Alternative.
  • Green Party Campaigns.
  • Local progressive campaigns of alliances of progressive Democrats, Greens, Socialists, Independents in nonpartisan elections like those of the Richmond Progressive Alliance in California.
  • Independent individual progressive or left campaigns in non-partisan elections we have heard from in a number of areas, such as aldermanic races in Chicago and many other cities.
