More than a quarter of young people of sub-Saharan origin in France feel discriminated against at work, according to a study published on Friday.

The Center for Employment Studies found 27 percent of 18- to 35-year-olds from this group felt they were treated unjustly at work. The figure was 18 percent for those of North African descent and 12 percent for those with a Turkish family background.

Among women, the ‘native’ French population, namely those with no discernable migrant background, felt most discriminated against with 19 percent reporting unfair treatment.

According to the study, women feel discriminated against on the basis of age or gender while men felt it was their ethnicity that resulted in discrimination

They could always go back home where they’ll be treated royally... Anyone forcing them to stay in France?

And I’m sure a native French person would be treated so well in Turkey and sub-Saharan Africa. /s

This is the problem made worse by France's colonial policies. They were different from the British in that France had a policy of reverse assimilation in Africa. I can see where français Africains would have different expectations.

They can’t claim that they were brought to France as slaves. They came to France to leech off the white man. You don’t like it, get your azz back to Africa.

I worked with a black American male who was coddled; working only about 30 hours a week and billing 40+ he was leeching off the diversity advantage. But to hear him talk he was badly treated. When he was on my project I kept track of his time and confronted him when he turned in 10 hours or so as billable to my project when he wasn’t in the building. He said he had responsibilities. His wife didn’t work and could drive, but he took the kids to the doctor. I told him that all the others on the project had kids and responsibilities and when they weren’t there they weren’t billing my project. He slapped me with the race card. I did get him removed. Finally, after years of this when they did a layoff they did it based on billable hours and his were the lowest as nobody wanted him so he was mostly indirect. They laid him off and he again said it was racism, even though he was the only black laid off.

The point is, if they’re predisposed to see racism they’ll see it.

Some of it is excessive self-esteem. Blacks have the highest self-esteem of any group. In practice, this means they overrate their own abilities, and therefore see racism when they don't achieve the success that their inflated self-assessments would seem to guarantee.

“Some of it is excessive self-esteem.”

Oh, my goodness! I got quite a shock when I started interviewing some of the first products of the school system’s effort to raise self-esteem. Not just blacks but all of them. They would demand to start at 60-70k right out of school when we were starting the best graduates at about 35k. I’d ask why they thought they deserved so much and they’d say something like, “because I’m worth it.” I’d pull out their paperwork and say, “you have a c average. You could not explain how an alternator worked. The only skills you have are programming which is not what this job requires. How is it you think you are so special?” They’d look at me as if I were crazy and say something like, “I just am.”

I talked to an employee who was a adjunct professor. He laughed and laughed and explained about their self-esteem training.
