Gates, Gays, and the Boy Scouts
National Review ^ | 5/24/2015 | Kevin D. Williamson

Posted on 05/24/2015 5:34:53 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

The soul of a bureaucrat

Robert Gates has long been surrounded by men in uniform, first as secretary of defense, now as president of the Boy Scouts of America. His time at DoD coincided with the repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on homosexual soldiers — a repeal effectively imposed by the courts — and as the leader of the Boy Scouts he is calling for a repeal of that organization’s policy banning homosexual adults from serving as troop leaders or in other leadership roles.

Gates, whose likeness appears in Webster’s with the entry for “bureaucrat,” says that the Boy Scouts’ policy on homosexuals is “unsustainable.” He warns that attempting to maintain it would mean “the end of us as a national movement.” This sentiment expresses a great deal of what is wrong with the leadership culture of the United States.

Not because Gates is taking a friendlier attitude toward homosexuals than his predecessors have. There is, in fact, an excellent moral argument to be made for the inclusion of homosexual adults in leadership positions within scouting — but Gates is not making that argument.

Instead, he argues from organizational self-interest — never mind if it is right or wrong, the policy puts Scouting Inc. in a tough position, so best to abandon it. Duty to God and country? To heck with that — management always has its own priorities.

Depending on your point of view, Gates is either doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason or doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

The co-founder of the Human Rights Campaign, a deceptive name for a homosexual lobby group, was recently busted soliciting a police officer portraying a 15 year old boy willing to meet at a motel for homosexual sex, in Eugene, Or. Jeffrey Bean, is the co founder’s name. Heard about this one? Didn’t think so, bye bye Boy Scouts!

Let me be the first to comment on what the article was about. Williamson is absolutely correct. Guys like Gates are not concerned with what is right or wrong, but what is good for the organization in the moment. He is a bureaucrat, a pencil pusher, door holder, a bumswab for the political class. During his time in the Defense Department, victory in Iraq and Afghanistan was the last thing on his mind. His only concern was to stay in good graces with W, prior to Jan 2009, and in good graces with Obama afterwards. He had no priority but that.

The author is full of crap here. At least Gates is being honest about what he's pushing here. The BSA is an organization in decline, and Gates is saying that it's best to make a calculated decision to sell their souls for: (1) sustained corporate donations, and (2) possible new members. I can't imagine, on the other hand, what "excellent moral argument" the author of this idiotic piece would make on behalf of homosexual leaders in the BSA.

It's worth noting -- and it's no coincidence -- that the push for inclusion of homosexuals in various organizations and institutions almost always comes at a time when normal, decent people start losing interest in those organizations. The U.S. military went full-bore on a radical homosexual agenda when it became harder and harder for it to attract normal recruits. The same has been the case with many religious institutions. And now the BSA is just the latest similar story. The irony is that most people I know who might have cared about this a few decades ago are likely to just shrug their shoulder and say: "I didn't even know the Boy Scouts are still in business."

Gates’ speech contained an unintended truth when he said something along the lines of having to view the world as it is not as we want it to be.

Here is the world as it is - homosexuality in all its various names is a biological sport. A sport is a freak of nature that will never bread true; what ever it is it will not appear again in follow on generations.

In harsh reality the homosexual movement is a freak activity. For you can not take two members, chosen at random, from their population and naturally produce a young homosexual. There is a very practical way to prove this but it involves time and a “mission to Mars” environment.

Bottom line - the phrase “having to view the world as it is not as we want it to be” apply equally to both sides of this issue; like it or not.

Leftism requires you to be detached from your reality and or your reason. How do these idiots get into positions of power and influence?

Gates’s moral argument: “I’m doing what I’m told for a million five a year.”

“Lot . . . pitched his tent toward Sodom.”

So have the Boy Scouts. This will not end well either.

In 2012 the republicans nominated a man who has supported homosexual Scout leaders for more than 20 years, and who punished the Scouts during his 2002 winter Olympics management, and he reasserted his position in the 2012 presidential campaign.

So all that is left hanging in the air on these threads.

not really, there are some five minute make ups, but they miss the marks so far as to be not even up for consideration

I don’t think they will learn it again.

The behaviour once rightly abhorred is now celebrated.

I quit the Boy Scouts in 1954 (I was 13) because the Scoutmaster was teaching my fellow scouts the “joys” of homosexual behavior on one of our camping trips.

I chose not to participate, and you might say that that experience “colored” my view of homosexuals!

It is a perversion! And one is not born homosexual — one is seduced or forced into that behavior!

We have some FRiends who are VERY active in American Heritage Girls, and DW and I have had some interaction with the AHGs through them.

AHG seems like a fine organization, and if the Faith Based Boys are anything at all like AHG, it should be a viable and safe alternative.
