Atheist Activist Plans to Remove 'In God We Trust' from US Currency

An atheist activist is planning to file lawsuits claiming the phrase “In God We Trust” on American money is “offensive” and “unlawful.”

“It violates the first ten words of the Bill of Rights (‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion’) and it violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA),” said Michael Newdow, who is also a lawyer and doctor. “Unfortunately, because Constitutional principles can be twisted and perverted, the challenges to this practice under the Establishment Clause have, so far, failed.”

Newdow wrote a guest post on the Friendly Atheist blog last week, arguing that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act may help atheists challenge the phrase. Under the act, Newdow is claiming that the phrase is a constitutional violation.

“Imagine if Christians had to carry on their body something they disagree with religiously, like ‘Jesus is a lie’ — how long do you think that would stand?” Newdow told website ThinkProgress. “But atheists are so denigrated in this society that people accept this without a second thought.”

According to ThinkProgress, Newdow can argue that atheism is a religion and is exempt under the RFRA or he can argue that the word “God” is offensive.

In 2013, a judge found that Newdow’s claim that “One Nation Under God” violated the First Amendment was unfounded, according to The Blaze.

I hate to see this lost soul so tormented. I'm more than happy to take every piece of currency in his possession that has the phrase "In G-D We Trsut" that he finds so offensive off his hands. Besides, I wonder if this a**clown realizes his own name, Michael, is from the Hebrew Mikha'el meaning "who is like G-D?" Though it's meant to be rhetorical, merely asking such a question is acknowledging the existence of a Loving and Almighty G-D.

I’m an atheist, and I’m damned sick and tired of this crap coming from my fellow atheists. These people are attention whores, and my first impulse is to whomp them upside the head and tell them to get a life.

See how the Left operates.

The feminists want to remove the Founders from money, and now this. Once In God We Trust is removed, people will discontinue using cash.

Newdow doesn’t believe in God but he HATES God! How do you hate what you claim to be nonexistent?

Some say that’s antitheism, not atheism.

Anyway Newdow, good luck you wandering bag of lukewarm chemicals brought together in a cosmic accident of random forces swirling meaninglessly in interstellar chaos!

Enjoy for now your temporary ability to communicate with your fellow chemical bags until that day when your living chemistry becomes nothing but...chemistry.

;^)

“IN GOD WE TRUST”, all others pay cash.

If we no longer “trust” the value our currency, then that currency becomes worthless.

This is the ultimate conclusion and fate of fiat paper and electronic currencies.

I provide a service or product, I expect something of tangible, and stable value in return.

If you have a problem with that, then you are part of the looting hoards seeking to get something from nothing by financial manipulation.

“Beware of the moneychangers” is just as applicable today as it was in the time that Jesus Christ himself walked on ths face of the earth.

Since most atheists believes their is no god, I fail to see the problem. If there is no god, there is no religion because religion requires a god to worship. Thus no foul.

For the atheists that believes in nothing higher than the self, are they saying that trust in ones self is offensive and unconstitutional? How does that logically follow? And what laws govern it?

Those are legit questions. They should be addressed.

They would welcome “In Satan. We Trust”. I bet you wouldn’t hear a peep from any of the athiests if they did this. They Leftists would cheer it on until the day they died and then wish they hadn’t a few seconds after...
