West Seattle couple leaves all their assets — $847,215 — to Uncle Sam
The Seattle Times ^ | 19MAY2015 | Erik Lacitis

Americans often go to great lengths to keep the government off their assets.

But last month, as Peter and Joan Petrasek had wished in their wills, a cashier’s check for $847,215.57 was made out to the Department of Treasury.

The Petraseks had left their total accumulated wealth, of cash in the bank and sale of their West Seattle home, “to the government of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

The Petraseks had no children.

Why the unusual will? Why not a charity or some cause?

Imbeciles if you ask me. Lots of great charities that would use a high % of the money to good work and they give it to an inefficient government that will likely pi$$ most of it away.....stupid.

We don't understand America AT ALL:

Really?

From the article:

“As a refugee from World War II, he was very grateful to his adopted country. He grew up with a lot of people in Eastern Europe who would have been happy to change places with him.

“There are still a lot of people in the world who would envy him the life he lived. He wanted to make a statement about how much it meant to him to be an American citizen.”

I'm inclined to just say 'thank you' for the generosity.

I resent these 2 dead idiots.

Burning the money would have been more beneficial.

FEDGOV wastes that much money in a minute or two, on nonsense.

West Seattle is the legislative district of Cong. Baghdad Jim McDermott. If that gives you any hint of the neighborhood.

Well, it was their business to do with their money as they willed (pun slightly intended). Still, I wish they had picked a well-run private charity or something like that. They might have done far more good for their fellow human beings had they gone that route.

Or, you know, they could have just given it all to me. I’d see it was put to good use, honest!

Would or could FreeRepublic continue to exist as it has if some wealthy benefactor paid all the costs to run this site?

No sugar daddies! FR is a grassroots site for true Conservative activism. It thrives because "We the People" individually contribute to advance America returning to its pro-God, pro-life, pro-gun and anti-sodomy foundation. RINOs and liberals are funded by wealthy benefactor. Conservatives are not.

Then they could have left it to the WWII museum or perhaps a charity that aids our veterans...instead their money will be wasted on table doilies for Lindsey Graham or offices supplies for Fauxcahontas. Or for overpriced toilet seats, or for PSAs that will help no one, or for Moochelle's crappy school "lunches". Worst of all for "benefits" for those who demand everything and contribute nothing.

I had no idea such naivete still existed where FedZilla was concerned.

What are the chances they were registered Democrats?

If they’ve been dead less than 20 years you’ll find they’re still registered to vote.
