We could easily drive at 100 MPH if incompetent people were not given licenses, and if drug and alcohol diminished drivers were not present.

Yes, but incompetent people, drugs and alcohol are present. Until it's a perfect world, adjustments will have to be made.

The main issue is that all drivers drive at their safe speed, but that speed is not universal. Drugs, booze, bad eyesight, slow reaction times, and improperly maintained vehicles alter it.

Until it's a perfect world ...

It sounds as though you might be a person with diminished physical abilities, judging by your comments??

My comments are based on my experience. I have driven over 2 million+ miles professionally, plus whatever I have driven in my private vehicles the last 40 or so years. I have witnessed some of the worst driving imaginable during that time. Unfortunately, common sense and competence will not always prevail, so some things such as speed limits must be legislated to help in some way to prevent some of the carnage.

No, I am not a person with diminished physical abilities. It sounds as though you might be a person with diminished mental abilities, judging by your comments??

So in 2.5 Million miles, you have seen something and are still here. That’s 10-20 times more than most people drive in a lifetime. NOT something I’d care about at all. There are far more common random things that can kill you throughout the day.

“I had to chuckle at that. If you had even a hint of an idea what I have been doing for the last 40 years, you wouldn’t have made such a statement.”

Let me guess, you were a traffic cop? Haha. Well, if you did do something with a high element of danger for long enough you’d know “safety” is not as it seems...

“According to you, even if the posted limit was 200MPH, people would do 10-20MPH above it.”

No, I’m saying people will ALWAYS drive at the maximum speed they feel safe and most limits are set WAY below what the average person is confortable with. Most people don’t speed to spite the government’s stupid arbitary limit. They speed because the limits are unnatural and way too low for the given roads
