A Mississippi manhunt is underway in Hancock County. It kicked into action Monday evening after a sheriff's deputy was beaten in a traffic stop, according to an account in The Sun Herald.

The stop happened in Pearlington. An unidentified officer pulled over a blue Lincoln Towncar with a black top and a lone driver around 10 p.m. on Old Highway 90, police said.

The deputy reportedly smelled marijuana as he approached, and then was startled by two men who burst out of the nearby woods and attacked him, Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam said.

"They roughed him up, but the officer was able to press a button and release his K-9 from the backseat," Adam said. The officer was freed when the dog latched on to one of the attackers, police said.

Normally I would post this in general/chat but in light of everything going on and the recent deaths of the two police officers in Hattiesburg I thought it more newsworthy.

Pearlington is just a little speck on the map. Not much there. It is diverse in population with lots of rednecks and gangster wanna bes. Lots of meth making in Hancock county.

Not much racial tension there as people get along well as most are in the same boat in life. Deputies could be black or white. Lots of questions here.

Glad the officer wasn’t hurt worse, thank God for dogs, always there to serve and protect. Maybe the cops need to invest in trunk monkeys ; 0

The men fled in a blue Lincoln Towncar with a black vinyl top and large chrome rims. The vehicle had no tags, and the deputy's squad car was not equipped with a dashboard camera.

I'm guessing that either (a)the deputy couldn't see the perps very well in the dark or (b)the media is trying to cover up that they are Holder's people.
