Shoppers could soon have difficulty finding meat's origin

Shoppers could soon have a harder time finding out where their red meat comes from.
The World Trade Organization ruled Monday that the U.S. "country of origin" labels put Canadian and Mexican livestock at a disadvantage. The current labels say where the animals were born, raised and slaughtered.
The Obama administration has already revised the labels once to try to comply with previous WTO rulings in favor of Canada and Mexico. Since those efforts didn't work, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says Congress will have to weigh in to avoid retaliation such as extra tariffs from the two neighbor countries.

This is in sane. I don't want to buy any food from china. ("medicine" either for that matter.) You just cannot trust what is in it. At all.

For me, CoO=USA is first choice.
After that ... Canada, New Zealand, and Australia are essentially equal, and a very close second.

Good. Less gov’t regulation is a plus.

Like most everyone else on this thread I want to know, at least, what country my food is coming from. I cannot deny someone else that right.

Neither do I. In fact Albertson’s had their own label on jars of spaghetti sauce. The Mushroom marinara, from Canada, was very good!

“Smithfield announced a plan to ship carcasses to China for processing-then ship them back to sell.”
The same thing is being allowed with chicken. China has a huge problem with chickens contaminated with bird flue. Problem solved. Take the chickens being sent to China for processing for domestic consumption and send the Chinese diseased chickens back to the USA.
Another good reason for high tariffs, particularly on foods. Free trade can literally kill you.
