Love the new MacBook's svelte design, but not a fan of OS X 10.10 Yosemite? There's good news: According to a new test, Windows 10 apparently runs more smoothly on the new MacBook.
Alex King, a computer science student studying at Tufts University, spent a month with the new 12-inch MacBook and provided some insightful new details about running the beta version of Windows 10 on it.

King installed Windows 10 using Boot Camp, meaning his new MacBook boots natively into Windows 10, as opposed to being emulated in a virtual machine within OS X. Using virtual machine software like the popular Parallels usually requires more resources, and thus, performance is slower.
After tinkering with a few settings and drivers, he had Windows 10 up and running and was immediately impressed. Here's the TL;DR summary King posted on his blog:
It's fast. It's smooth. It renders at 60FPS unless you have a lot going on. It's unequivocally better than performance on OS X, further leading me to believe that Apple really needs to overhaul how animations are done. Even when I turn Transparency off in OS X, Mission Control isn't completely smooth. Here, even after some Aero Glass transparency has been added in, everything is smooth. It's remarkable, and it makes me believe in the 12-inch MacBook more than ever before.
King also praised Microsoft Edge, Windows 10's new web browser, for being "fast to render pages" and handling "a large number of tabs admirably."
In addition to the regular daily usage testing, King also tested out 3D gaming on the new MacBook running Windows 10. While the Intel Core M processor and integrated graphics won't run the newest games or even games at the highest settings, he was able to play Left 4 Dead 2 at 60 frames per second (fps) at a 1,280 x 800 resolution. The new MacBook could even emulate old Nintendo GameCube games like Super Smash Bros. Melee at the 60 fps, too.
The most important takeaway from King's testing isn't the fact that Windows 10 runs really well on the new MacBook, but rather how the fanless Intel Core M processor bodes for future Windows 10 laptops.
If PC makers can optimize Windows 10 to run as well as it does on Apple hardware, we'll be in for some lovely laptops quite soon.
Ping your lists. Interesting findings with the new windows 10 running on new Mac hardware.
Swordmaker, put in your damage control so they don’t lose their faith in Apple :-)
Lies, all lies.
Operative word in article headline: “seems”.
Is playing a game a benchmark?
Normally it isn't, but Apple introduced some performance-sucking code with Yosemite that they haven't successfully repaired yet.

So if Windows 10 (I wonder why they don’t call it Windows x?) is so fast and smooth, I wonder how fast my flight simulations will run on my Windows gaming rig?
Not a surprise to me. Apple has devolved into a bunch of millionaire hippie slackers in Cupertino collecting dividend checks. When Steve Jobs died, Apple died. The crappy Apple watch.... you have a first wave of Asian conformists-fanbois buying them up but after this there is nothing
So how did Microsoft fare with the Zune, after saying the Apple iPod would flop? They said the iPhone would flop, then copied with the Microsoft Phone, so how is that going? They said the iPad would flop, now there is the Microsoft Surface, not going anywhere. Now they're knocking the Apple Watch despite millions being sold, and soon Microsoft will announce the Microsoft Watch. That company should be called the Micro-thinker company, because they sure copy Apple after saying Apple's stuff won't sell. (Add the empty Microsoft Stores and you see a pattern of copying Apple.)
WOW , that’s even cattier than I expected... To answer your question Microsoft has always been a copier and not an innovator ,, going back to DOS V1.0 ... their only real success has been a gaming console.
That said ,,, the “gotta have the new toy” bunch is the only group I see buying the iWatch ... I saw a TV ad today for the watch ,, actually had a few shots of it being used as a watch (you can pick a Mickey Mouse face!) but my biggest takeaway was that NOWHERE in the ad was it stated or inferred that the iWatch is only a leech piggybacking on an iPhone ,, the entire add showed it as a standalone unit ...
Not trying to be catty (never accused of that before), but it’s irritating how many companies knock Apple when they come out with something, only to try to copy with a similar product when they see the success of Apple with the product. I’ve read the quotes from Microsoft “leaders” knocking the Apple products, only to copy them a couple years later. That’s insanity.
Anyway, I’ll agree with you that the iWatch is an accessory for the iPhone but not mentioned in that ad, and that’s not cool. An accessory I can do without. Apple has mentioned that it is an accessory that’s meant to be used so you won’t use your iPhone. But they need to note that in their ads.
Where is Microsoft knocking the iwatch?
And surface is a billion dollar product already. It is doing quite well.
Surface has not done well.

Microsoft has only begun to show a small marginal profit over costs, and were a money-loser for Microsoft for two years. That’s not good. Meanwhile, Apple makes many billions in revenue each and every quarter from iPads.
“Seems,” madam? Nay, it is; I know not “seems.”

Well then by that definition Android isn’t winning.

Ummm, maybe, but not yet. The Mashable article isn’t accurate. Or didn’t you actually READ the kid’s blog where the original opinions and impressions were written up? That is where the kid writes:
>> Overall, UI speed is only one metric of speed, and articles claiming that I found Windows 10 to be faster than OS X are missing the point.
There is no comparison data on running the same program on both OSes. Just “impressions”. Well, a lot of people like Windows better than OS X, that’s hardly news.
And in any case, it has been a fact for many years that the best platform for running Windows is a Mac, for any given price point. Or don’t you remember all the review articles with real comparative data, and headlines like, “The best computer for running Windows 7 is a Mac”?
This thing from Mashable isn’t ping-worthy as it stands. Maybe after Alex posts some actual data on the same programs under both OSes, more than just graphics rendering rates, it’ll become worthy. But I’m not going to bother the Windows Ping List with some kid’s personal impressions, at least not yet.
