Local Amtrak conductor weighs in on derailment

Yep. Certainly doesn’t hurt to wait for an investigation to pillory the guy. Note also his own posts about poor Amtrak safety policies. Doesn’t sound like he’s either stupid or unconcerned about safety:

I used to work for the railroads.

For certain cities - we would install heavy metal grills on the windows of the locomotive.

Also - evil people would hang cinder blocks at window level (over a bridge) so the locomotive would hit it no matter what.

Actually, I was apolitical before the accident, and apolitical afterwards. I was a 14 year old freshman in a high school that was about 75% black, and it was the day after Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered. A brave civil rights protester sneaked up behind me and smashed me in the back of the head with a two-by-four because I was white and he wasn't.

It took a number of considerably more serious blows -- philosophically speaking -- to get me to become a conservative, and it it didn't happen for quite some time.
