It sounds like his dream was to be a gay activist traveling around the country speaking out for gay marriage.
Engineering was probably a means to obtain his lifestyle of activism.

Elevated Station above kensington is 1500 feet before the curve. This area is just north of harrogate. which in the old days was famous for the purity of the water and was a vacation spot. Now it’s home to needle park although much improved since those days. cooked a bunch a burgers there on a 4th of july outreach sponsored by Rex Burgher at http://www.klifemin.org/. he’s done this every year for a long time.

a known trouble spot for kids throwing bricks and rocks at the train If I had ever done anything even slightly close to throwing rocks at a train and my parents had found out, I would still be grounded and feeling the repercussions today (and I'm in the 50's Nifty club)

They're not your "brothers and sisters" you melodramatic clown.
They're coworkers.
You're not combat veterans, you're union drudges.
When did everyone in this country become a misunderstood hero in his own mind?

I dont begrudge the guy for lawyering up

Rule #1 if involved in a shooting.
Speak to NO ONE without a lawyer. Don’t say you are sorry or admit ANYTHING without a lawyer.
The Cop may be your ‘friend’ but he is also trying to build a case and place blame.

"And the brick vanished from inside the cab before investigators went in"
I don't know what the investigators found inside the cab, but there are photos on the web that show windshield damage to the locomotive, but only on the engineer's side (the right side of the cab, that is).
If the wreak had caused the windshield damage, I would have expected the windshield damage to be distributed on both sides.

My daughter had a concussion and skull fracture about twelve years ago. She was never unconscious, and was only hospitalized for the X-ray and some observation -- she received no treatment for the injury. She remembered the accident, but nothing that happened for about ten minutes afterward. Those memories have never returned.
In the case of my own concussion, I was unconscious for almost 1/2 hour. I had full memory of everything before the accident and the instant after I regained consciousness.
I really don't believe you would get a neurologist who would be willing to make an absolute statement about what duration, coverage, pre- or post-, or any other parts of an accident involving brain injury anyone would remember, because all of those injuries are so different, as are the victims, and memory is a complex constructive process.
There is also psychogenic amnesia involved in some cases, in which case all bets are off.

(On your deathbed you will receive total consciousness. So I got that goin' for me.)

I thought trains were equipped with “dead man’s” switches, so if an engineer was somehow incapacitated the train would stop.

This one was not equipped with that. Anyway, if he was knocked out, who pulled the emergency brake?

That may very well be so. Yet the question remains why was he going so fast ....it’s not like this was his first go at that corner?
I just think there’s more to this we won’t know any time soon.

Another one inside cab. I can't see how a brick could be thrown at the perfect angle and force to knock out the engineer. From the side, the force would send him forward into the accelerator???
