Good mag overall.
I liked it since I cared nought for flame paint jobs, chrome, giant lifts, jumps, etc.
Not knocking those who do but I was more interested in the everyday vehicle area.
Ha!!!
Considering most people just had a jeep of a Chevy with 33s and MAYBE a small lift, they absolutely served a market...a big one. And they usually had articles tech heavy and worth the time to read.
I interviewed for the editor position at Off-Road magazine after leaving ORC. That interview ended in 5 min. by my choice. Lets just say we had a difference in editorial ideas. ;)
First, Air America. Now this. What is this world coming to?
A nuclear end most likely.
I made certain that it wouldn’t even accidentally appear on my TV. I blocked it out on my Dish receiver. So if I have some company who wants to watch it I tell them that we don’t have it where we live.
At a Shell gas station, not too far from me, they have a big screen tv, mounted on a wall, tuned to Fox News 24 hours a day.
I know the owner, a new American, originally from India. I asked him if anybody complained about Fox, He said, "screw them, they can buy their gas elsewhere".
Good, sound, American attitude.
Did you not see eye to eye with Bob Petersen?
I didn’t see eye to eye with the intervewer and his idea that the Sierra Club and discussing Eco issues that directly impacted the sport were to be reviewed by corporate prior to publication.
After typing the above I decided in true internet fashion to look up the details later. Ahemm, anyhow I see that OR was an Argus title and Argus was gobbled up by some corporate raider dipshits.
I cannot recall what hapened to PV4 but likely have the last issue somewhere. Maybe died around 1984.
When you say PV4 I assume that’s Pick-up, Van and 4WD, correct?
I think Peterson actually had Off-Road for a while. Maybe Im thinking one of the others. It’s been 15 years since I really paid attention so who knows. There was a lot of scrambling and warfare when they started losing marketshare to ORC, Pirate 4x4 and a couple of the other bigger sites.
Correct. I really liked that pub .Too bad they folded.
I just was probably wrong about him having a four wheeler magazine but am pretty sure he had Motor Trend and Car Craft. And Guns and Ammo, too. I know he donated some really fine shootin irons to the NRA Museum.
Oh they absolutely did. Peterson’s 4Wheel and Off-Road.
I can’t remember for the life of me what the deal was with Off-Road itself was though. The last Off-Road mag I got was like 2009ish and it was all of about 50 pages, half of which were ads for itself. Something in my mind keeps saying there was a Peterson connection but it may just be garbled memories. Ad sales for the whole print sector had almost evaporated by then and the writing was horrid.
