RICHMOND, Va. – A University of Virginia associate dean is seeking more than $7.5 million from Rolling Stone magazine in a defamation lawsuit stemming from a debunked account of an alleged gang rape on campus.

The suit was filed Tuesday by Nicole Eramo, who is the top administrator dealing with sexual assaults at the Charlottesville school.

The problem is, as always, like with “hands up, don’t shoot” and other nonsense, that the story gets out there. Certain groups get inflamed, and they don’t care or know about the retractions.
I am not a big fan of lawsuits, but they must be financially devastated so they stop this nonsense

Roger that. Be nice to see them bankrupted but I don’t think that’ll happen. They’ll just toss the writer under the trailways bus goin’ 75 mph.

Rolling Stone does a story about a fraternity raping people, which isn’t true and the UVA bans the fraternity and the UVA now claims it is the victim??????????????????????????

I’m guessing UVA and the associate dean are being sued by the frat, and this a way of seeking 3rd party liability.

Regardless, its a liberal vs. liberal feeding frenzy, and worthy of some popcorn.

Not UVA. This particular person, who was in the story by name and was essentially portrayed as they story's true villain as the "establishment figure" who tries to get "Jackie" to not make a big deal over the incident.

All of which was complete B.S. They even used a doctored photo of her.

Of all the possible plaintiffs, she actually has the best case because she was directly and personally identified. There was enough ambiguity over the identities of the others in the story that proving damages will be more difficult for them.

The president of the university was every bit as ham handed and gullible as the Rolling Stone ignoramuses.

The prez should be sued by the fraternity and the prez could pay up by suing Rolling Stone, who could sue the liar who agreed to tell her tale.

But it says the UVA is suing, not this Dean as a private person.

It doesn’t matter. The whole case is so upside down, one has a hard time keeping track of any of the ins and outs.

It’s just more Obamaland: where up is down, right is wrong and perpetrator is the victim.

and UVA now claims it is the victim?

actually, RS managed to victimize UVA, this assoc. dean, as well as the accused fraternity and the entire frat system at UVA which was shut down for a while. There should be several lawsuits generated by this story - but this particular lawsuit is strictly a liberal-on-liberal affair. While the Assoc. Dean seems to have been a pretty upstanding character in this story, she did contribute and went along with some of the stupid leftist narratives that drove this whole crazy episode.

The problem with lawsuits is, only the ambulance chasers win.
If I was in charge, I would bring back dueling. Just one of the benefits of duel is, the loser is shut up permanently.
