COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police are investigating how a loud music complaint led to an officer-involved shooting in unincorporated Marietta.

According to investigators, police were called to the Hill Crest Plaza Mobile Home Park on Atlanta Road on a noise complaint around 1:30 a.m. Monday

When officers arrived, they asked Brian Ohlman, 37, to turn down his music. After refusing their orders, police say he pulled out a gun and began shooting at the officers.

“The male refused to turn the music down and then produced a handgun and started firing at officers at which time the officers fired back,” said Officer Alicia Chilton.

The officers returned fire and struck the man at least once, investigators said. Neighbors said the man tumbled out of the window of the home.

Neighbors who knew the man told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt that they don’t doubt those circumstances.

“I mean, he’s a nice guy, but if he did what he did, police had to do what they had to do,” said Katie Lawrence who says she’s friends with Ohlman.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on routine administrative leave, pending the investigation.

Someone place a photo and flowers outside Ohlman’s home, not knowing what could have set him off.

“He’s a decent guy, just parties too hard,” said one woman.

Ohlman remains in critical condition at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. He will face charges that include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

This used to BE “Fair Oaks Mobile Home Park”. Or they are right side by side. I pass the place every time I drive up to the county seat. Don’t drive under 20 mph or they’ll steal your hubcaps.

Old 41 is over on the Kennesaw side, by McCollum airport. They had an approach accident over there too, much more recently.

The military plane went down on Austell Road, about 2 blocks from this trailer park. West side of Dobbins, just off the end of runway 11. I was 9 at the time, remember hearing about the Fair Oaks crash. Dad was an aviation lawyer.

It appears devolution is proceeding rapidly, and we may expect new sub-species of sub-humans. Just in time to fight it out with the devolving urban ferals in Baltimore, ad nauseam.

Actually, they’ve been trashy over there as long as I can remember.

Old 41 was the vernacular for Atlanta Rd. (adjacent to the old interurban right of way) through Smyrna, Fair Oaks and Marietta west of Dobbins. US 41 was known as ‘the Four Lane’ and ran east of Dobbins, missing Smyrna and catching the east edge of Marietta at the Big Chicken.

I visited the area a few years ago. Belmont Hills (’the largest shopping center in the South’) was gone; Cobb Center was gone, the huge Lockheed wind tunnel was gone, the Country Club was a hotel. Only the Big Chicken was left.

The "trolley road." I live within a rock's throw of it. There are a couple of places you can still see the old roadbed.

They rebuilt whole sections of Atlanta Road - new bypass just beyond the trailer park area, the old road is now "West Atlanta Road" - which is as confusing as the multiple "old 41"s because now there are 3 in different places.

Belmont Hills lay fallow during the real estate downturn, but a new multi-use development is just about completed now, in the style of the old school building behind. They're keeping the name.

The Big Chicken was going to be wrecked out awhile back, but there was an enormous public outcry and funds were raised to restore it. Completely refurbished - and the beak once again opens and shuts and the eyes roll round. They had to do it - everybody in town would be constantly lost without that major navigational aid - "go to the Big Chicken and turn left" . . .

Hasn’t changed a bit. A few Hispanics added to the mix, but mostly still the Usual Suspects.
