SFC Christopher Speer Is Dead; Omar Khadr Is Free

A Canadian judge ruled this week that Omar Khadr poses no public safety threat. Tell that to the children of Sergeant First Class Christopher J. Speer and the surviving American soldiers who valiantly fought Khadr on the battlefield.

In 2012, Khadr pleaded guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty and guilty to five charges related to the killing of Speer, a 28-year-old medic with the U.S. Special Forces. This young American hero died in Afghanistan in 2002 during an ambush by al-Qaida operatives. Just days before he gave his life, Speer had fearlessly walked onto a minefield to rescue two wounded Afghan children. It was Khadr, born and bred an Islamic jihadist by his terrorist father, who lobbed the fatal grenade in the war zone. Another American soldier, SFC Layne Morris, survived the attack, but was blinded in one eye for life.

In a sealed plea deal at Guantanamo Bay, Khadr admitted to throwing the grenade. He admitted to attempted murder, conspiracy, spying and providing material support to terrorism. He signed a 50-paragraph stipulation that classified him as an “enemy belligerent because he has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States and its coalition partners” and documented his family’s intimate association and friendship with al-Qaida leaders Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri and Muhammad Atef.

Don’t believe the international human rights bleeding hearts. The Khadr family is rightfully known as Canada’s First Family of Terror.

I hope Freepers will bear with me as this is my third post on the subject. Michelle Malkin is absolutely right in remembering the victims of this man. This includes the family members.

Prime Minister Harper instructed government lawyers to oppose bail for Khadr. He still has to face a trial I believe. A Queens Bench Court judge of Alberta, granted bail. Again Canadian government lawyers appealed this verdict. The next judge threw out the government case. Both judges are women.

Prime Minister Harper went on television and decried the court's decision. He flatly stated Khadr committed murder. He offered condolences to the family of the murdered American Army Medic.

Not Canada here, but the activist judges who abound in Canada. That kind of judge is also active in the United States.

Not Canada here...

I'm afraid it's more that just the judges. Maher Arar was al-Qaeda operative and an associate of Omar Khadr. He was deported to Syria by the Americans in 2002. Arar sued Canada and the Canadians decided to give him 10 million dollars for his inconveniences. He also got an apology from Harper. Arar got these canadian awards: Council of Canadians Human Rights Award, British Columbia Civil Liberties Association Robson Award, Honorary Doctorate of Letters, Nipissing University, and many more. Like his friend Arar, Khadr is also suing the Canadian government for 20 million.

We can agree to disagree. Your detail of those who awarded Arar honours seem to me to be the Canadian left.

I will concede errors were made in the Arar case. His description was of being months in a 10 foot X 7foot cell, beaten with cables. Mouse droppings seeped down into his cell, said he. A few days after arriving in Canada he looked sharp and well rested. A careful forensic medical team could have verified whether his account was true. He should have been hardly able to walk if he was thus treated.

Council of Canadians Human Rights Award etc. What a laugh!

10 million dollars payed by the government of Canada, not awarded by any judge. Personal groveling apology to Arar from Harper. Arar is given Adjunct Professor position at U of Ottawa. You can't write this off as just a few left wing kooks rallying for Arar.

The mistake was to allow Arar back into Canada, as pointed out by the Syrian consul in 2012. Maher Arar is a supporter of Omar Khadr.

I’ll probably get flamed, but it is more of a question. After WWII we had all sorts of German prisoners. In reading the WWII plus 70 years threads we used a lot (all?) of them as labor after the war to rebuild, but then let go. But probably only a few were tried for “murder”. What this Khadr guy did was typical war-time fighting as far as I can tell - so why is it considered murder?

But at some point once we are all the way out of Afghanistan and the war is considered “over” - why wouldn’t he just be considered another POW and returned after the war?

I am guessing that the answer is that he is a terrorist, and his war against us will never be over. But still - just hold him as a POW forever. And I’m still trying to figure out all of these trials for the captured terrorists we got over there during the fighting. Goofy way to run a war.
