British Prime Minister Cameron's Conservatives on track for absolute majority (Landslide)
FOX News ^ | May 8, 2015

Posted on 05/08/2015 4:27:23 AM PDT by Din Maker

David Cameron's second term as British Prime Minister was confirmed Friday after his Conservative Party won enough seats to form a working majority in the 650-member House of Commons.

Shortly before noon Friday, London time, the Conservatives, or Tories, had won 324 seats to 229

It would be the first time the Conservatives had won a parliamentary majority since 1992. Cameron is the first Conservative Prime Minister to win re-election since Margaret Thatcher.

It is not a landslide at all. Most of the country voted against him and his majority will be wafer thin.

If the numbers posted in the article are correct (324 to 229) then this is not wafer thin. Only libs would call a 61% election wafer thin if it was in favor of the conservatives.

No, look, that 3% is in either direction for each number. (Actually very few polls are down to 2%, more likely up to 4-5%.)

So the Labour result was very likely within the MOE, but the Conservative result would depend on the size of the poll.

Look at this tracker of poll averages—they were really dead even at the end:

In parliamentary terms, he has a majority of less than 5!

Historically that is nothing, and nobody would call that a landslide over here. Not even close.

Any I am not a lib, I am actually a conservative unlike Cameron.

Heck, Netanyahu got less than 25% of the vote in Israel and that was proclaimed a ‘landslide’! Fifty percent is a real landslide, comparatively.

“Shortly before noon Friday, London time, the Conservatives, or Tories, had won 324 seats to 229.”

Curious how he pulled this kind of margin, then...

Ours is a different system.

I’m not disputing he has won, that he has one a majority, but in UK political terms, nobody, not even the tories themselves would describe this as a landslide.

Well, apparently in the UK, the word “Conservative” in NOT anathema to the average, everyday voter like it is here in the U.S.

Hunh. EVERY headline I saw (and I think the free news aggregator app relies heavily on cnn) said it was TOO CLOSE TO CALL; once it was obvious that Cameron had won the headlines said CAMERON WINS BUT NO MAJORITY.

All my life I've detested liars. Now I live in a world owned by them.

Here in the U.S., we call a cookie a cookie. In UK they call a cookie a biscuit. Here, I call a biscuit a biscuit. I have no idea what they call a biscuit in the U.K.

No all the polls predicted a hung Parliament.

Hung Parliament? This was a rout!

Today’s Conservative Party is basically the Labour Party in the 1970s. It bears no resemblance to the Thatcher-era Conservative Party.

It’s just that the Liberals have totally gone off the rails and are now considered the party of the Islam supporters.

His message was: I cut spending, I cut welfare and I’ll do Nigel Farage better because I’ll hold that referendum to take the UK out of the EU.

I don’t care for the man’s social policies but his fiscal record and euroskepticism won over English voters.

No wonder the Tories had a fantastic night.
