Officials with the Crane Independent School District are meeting to discuss their sex education program after nearly two dozen cases of Chlamydia were reported among the high school student body.

KOSA-TV reported the Crane Independent School District sent a letter to parents last week regarding 20 cases of chlamydia among the Crane High School student population, which totals about 300 students.

Those letters were sent to the parents of both senior and junior students as a precaution. The Texas Department of State Health Services notified both Crane and Upton County officials after a significant numbers of cases were identified.

The high school has three days of sex education in the fall semester for students, with the curriculum including abstinence. Crane ISD Superintendent Jim T. Rumage cited abstinence as a useful methodology for keeping kids away from sexual activity in a phone interview Monday.

“If kids are not having any sexual activity, they can’t get this disease … That’s not a bad program,” Rumage said.

Rumage said officials are meeting today to develop a curriculum that will be recommended to the school board on May 19.

“1 in 15”

That’s 6.66%.....hmmm, that number sounds familiar for some reason. Probably a coincidence, but satan never sleeps.

In certain large cities there are the at least 20 students with the name Chlamydia among the student population.

Suddenly that abstinence only education program doesn’t seem so dumb.

Among those who choose abstinence, I’d guess the infection rate is zero. Among those who engage in casual sex, the proportion is almost certainly more than half. Those are pretty bad odds, even for a teenager.

How did they get this information? Aren’t students’ medical records private? Did the students volunteer this information (seems unlikely)?

When my bride was up the stump I, for some reason, had to go to having a baby classes with her. The instructor recommended giving serious thought into the naming of the baby. She went on to say she was present when a new mother picked the beautiful sounding name of Placenta for her new born dsughter.

Tyler White needs to learn to write:

This sounds like the kids were engaging in sexual activity in the phone interview.

“How did they get this information? Aren’t students’ medical records private?”

Probably the local health department. Certain infectious diseases are mandated to be reported.

When my son got salmonella, I got a phone call from the Dept of Health asking about whether or not others in our family got it, where he went to school, etc.
