The Finnish Defence Forces are to send letters to all 900,000 of the country's reservists at the beginning of this month, informing them what their role would be in a "crisis situation", causing a row over whether such a move is necessary.
Finland, with its population of 5.2 million, has a small professional army of 16,000. Yet in the event of mobilisation, Finland could call on its former conscripts to fight. Finland's wartime military strength is 230,000.
According to local media reports, the decision was announced via a television advert, telling the nation's reservists "We want to have a word with you", and warning former conscripts that "Conscription is the cornerstone of Finland's defence capability."

Read a story this week that the Finns fired on a suspected sub in their waters.
Unfortunately, the Finns only gave the Soviet Army a bloody nose, the Soviets eventually KO’d the Finns.

The Russians did ultimately defeat Finland.
It wasn’t too easy for.them and I am suspicious of their capabilities now. You just can’t herd 100,000 guys over the hill anymore. But if the Finn’s think we have their back it may be a rude awakening.
They dropped a depth charge most likely no where near the suspected sub, but close enough to give em a shake.

Bravo to the Finns. They proved themselves a country of exceptional bravery in WW2 going up against the soviets. It’s Putin this time, with the Finns obviously having that same courage.
To think, America was once like this.
I watched a special on that on one of the history channels (implying the Finns were Nazi collaborators - though Germany was the only country willing to help them when the Soviets invaded in the Winter War); when the Finns had won back their pre-Winter War territory, they stopped fighting the Soviets (though some volunteers joined the Germans in continuing into Soviet territory). When the Soviets pushed the Germans back, the Finns were the only Axis-allied country along the Soviet border that kept its independence at the end of the war.
The inaction of the Western Allies to help the Finns in the Winter War (after their inaction against the communists in Spain’s civil war), and then to arm the Soviets throughout WWII, showed exactly why many nations were willing to fight for the Axis; they simply feared communism more than Nazism (and knew the West wouldn’t lift a finger to help them against the former).

Thanks; I’ll check it out when I get a chance. Interesting people; the country itself didn’t even exist during WWI (which was why the Soviets wanted it back).
I’ve seen the movie. It is one of the best War movies I have ever watched.
On paper The Soviet Army should have rolled over Finland in about a week or two. I have a few Sako mosin nagants and I’m sure you can guess where they originated.
More of a draw with some territory loss. If they really lost they would have ended up like all the other poor slobs behind the iron curtain...
