Moments ago according to the native Twitter feed of Arabiya, Iranian forces have seized a US cargo ship, which has some 34 American sailors, which they have taken to the port of Bandar Abbas.

Pure speculation on my part... But there are powerful entities in Iran, especially among the clergy, who are deeply opposed to any thaw in relations with the US. They have control over para military organizations and might be trying to do what we were unable to do in the Senate. Namely scuttle these talks by any means possible.
