GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida suspended one of its fraternities on Friday after allegations that its members hurled drunken insults and spat at a group of disabled military veterans at a Panama City Beach resort.
The school said on Friday that it is charging the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity with obscene behavior, public intoxication, theft, causing physical or other harm, and damage to property.
The suspension came after the fraternity had already suspended operations itself and expelled three of its members after finding they had behaved inappropriately.
"I am personally offended and disappointed by the behavior that has been described to me," Dave Kratzer, the school's student affairs vice president and retired U.S. Army major general, said in a statement.
The situation occurred while the fraternity and veterans with the Warrior Beach Retreat were at the Laketown Wharf Resort last weekend. The veterans were there for an annual retreat meant to honor their service, and the fraternity had a social function.

There were lots of vets (including myself) in my chapter of PEK in the early 70s.
I grew up 35 mi from Kent State and remember the troubles there much differently than history has preserved it.
It was a powder keg and the students were attacking the NG with rocks.
When the rocks were gone they took to filling dixie cups with cement at night so they could huck that at them the following day.
Trouble was bound to happen.
I think the NG showed great restraint and I believe they fired over the heads of the protesters.
Sadly what goes up must come down and 13 bullets hit kids, killing 4 who probably had nothing to do with the protests.
One Sandra Lee Sheuer grew up 4 mi from my house.
Bottom line is that the students were attacking the NG.
National policy and the draft had issues but these guys were just doing their job.
They never wanted to shoot anyone.
I think they showed great restraint.

When I was in college TKE was the Jewish fraternity at FSU, U OF F etc. They were anything but act out.
Tell your buddies at the SPLC to add me to their list.
On our campus the Teeks (TKE) were Animal House; if you can’t go Greek go Teek.
Maybe not ALL the offenders, but even if it was three guys doing it, how many didn’t stop them? Anyone in the room or party who could have and didn’t at least try to stop them needs a good talking’ to by one big bunch of PO’s vets.
Yeh at FSU it was “if you can’t go Greek go Freak. If you can’t go Freak go Teek.” :-)

Privileged college losers that know they will never ever serve or have a uniform on. Bring back the draft and put these muther #$%@ers in a role where the same might happen to them.
I support a mandatory draft and its use to eliminate overpaid contractors in many types of jobs like moving materiel, and to reduce our defense costs and give all our youth some needed grounding and respect for America.
These kids will never have any respect because they won’t have to serve. Publish their names too so that when they apply for a job this article comes up.
