ACLU sues feds in bid to make Catholic groups provide abortion to illegal immigrants

Providing food and shelter to illegal immigrants isn't enough for federally-funded Catholic organizations, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which is suing the federal government to help ensure the religious organizations provide abortion and contraception to them as well.

The suit aims to obtain government records related to reproductive healthcare policy for unaccompanied immigrant children in the care of federally funded Catholic agencies, which do not believe in abortion.

“We have heard reports that Catholic bishops are prohibiting Catholic charities from allowing teens in their care to access critical services like contraception and abortion- even if the teenager has been raped on her journey to the United States or in a detention facility,” said ACLU staff attorney Brigitte Amiri.

“Let’s be clear about the ACLU’s purpose here: ending the productive and successful partnership between the Catholic Church and the federal government on the care and shelter of vulnerable populations."

Almost 60,000 unaccompanied minors illegally crossed over from Mexico border last year. Nearly a third were young girls, and Amiri claims up to 80 percent were victims of sexual assault.

This is one of those interesting situations that plague conservative Catholics.

On one hand, screw the ACLU for trying to force the Catholic Church to do something strictly against Her doctrine.

On the other hand, what in the hell is the Catholic Church doing taking Federal money (no, this is not a surprise to me...they actually get billions of dollars a year)? And what in the hell is the Catholic Church doing accepting Federal monies to support illegal aliens (yes, I know...)?

Uncharacteristically, I look at this in an optimistic manner...a "win-win-win-win" scenario:

• First, the ACLU may be told by the courts to stick it where the sun don't shine...a definite win.
• Second, since the ACLU is suing the government, the Øbama Regime may fold like a house of cards...and side with the ACLU...thus exposing even more (so hopefully some of the blind within the Church can see it ever clearer) their evil agenda
• Third, the courts may side with the ACLU...in which case the Church may close down their illegal coddling operation (there is precedent for this, for example, when the government has demanded that the Church supported sodomite adoptions)
• Fourth, the courts may side with the ACLU and the Church folds like a house of cards...in which case, the hierarchy is shown to be socialists first, Catholics second. Not a happy result, but one that faithful Catholics need to know.

Give a group of lawyers anything and they are quite capable of perverting it into being the complete opposite of what it is intended to be. With judges (lawyers too) going along to get along.

Let me state up front that I believe that abortion is an Evil practice.
But I also think that all ILLEGAL ALIENS, from conception to the age 200 years old should be aborted.
