Report: IRS Deliberately Cut Its Own Customer Service Budget
Weekly Standard ^ | April 22, 2015 | John McCormack

Posted on 04/22/2015 6:49:57 AM PDT by Zakeet

If you tried to contact the IRS with a question about your taxes this year, chances are you didn't get a response. The IRS estimated that it would only answer 17 million of the 49 million calls received this filing season. Taxpayers lucky enough to have the IRS answer their calls waited an average of 34.4 minutes for assistance--nearly double the wait time last year (18.7 minutes).

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has blamed the IRS's "abysmal" customer service on congressional budget cuts--funding is down $1.2 billion from its 2010 peak--but a new congressional report points the finger back at the IRS. While congressional funding for the IRS remained flat from 2014 to 2015, the IRS diverted $134 million away from customer service to other activities.

In addition to the $11 billion appropriated by Congress, the IRS takes in more than $400 million in user fees and may allocate that money as it sees fit. In 2014, the IRS allocated $183 million in user fees to its customer service budget, but allocated just $49 million in 2015--a 76 percent cut.

EVERY bureaucrat is taught this tactic the day they leave the womb. From IRS Commissioner all the way down to the guy running your local county dog license bureau.

We the People are not the IRS’ customers.

CONGRESS is the IRS’ customer.

I don’t know, sounds like good news to me. I received a letter from them in January “thanking me for the information I sent them.” Funny thing was, I hadn’t sent them anything. They asked for 45 days for them to “review my submission” but if I thought I owed them any money I should just send it in. Then 45 days later I got the same letter asking for another 45 days, but it came from an office in another state. Then I finally got a letter saying “ everything was “up to date with my account.” I guess we should be thankful they are a screwed up agency and now they don’t have enough money to screw up successfully.

Dude, If I were you, I’d be doing a forensic rectal exam on my credit report right about now.

Not to mention they’ve shut down help offices and stopped sending paper instructions and forms to libraries and such. Just like the park service putting up barricades against veterans.

We need a government that works for its citizens rather than despising and persecuting them.

Who’s the presidential candidate that will restore ordinary decency to the bureaucracy? That’s the man or woman I’m voting for.

Of course they did. It’s the Old Bureaucratic Trick . . .hit the most obvious “services” to show the LIVs, “there I told you so”

“Education’ establishment does it. “We’ll have to cut teachers, blah blah blah”

And notice local admins always threaten to cut “police and fire” first

Eff these b*******

They want to be able to shift to higher Obama priorities, like harassing the Tea Party.

I wonder what the carbon footprint of all those IRS agents is? After all, Obama signed an executive order to cut government emissions by 40% or so.

When I worked in DC (mea culpa), we used to call it the Washington Monument Syndrome. There would be a temporary, across-the-board federal budget freeze and the first thing the National Park Service would do is eliminate weekend admissions to the Washington Monument.
