The Saudi-led coalition will now begin a new phase, titled 'Operation Restoring Hope', according to the statement of the Saudi defense ministry.

Saudi-led coalition operations in Yemen are now entering a political phase. The airstrikes have eliminated all threats against the kingdom and the neighboring countries through the destruction of the heavy arms and ballistic missiles that were seized by the Houthi militias and pro-Saleh forces, according to a statement by the defense ministry.

A coalition spokesman said the decision to end operation Firmness Storm followed a request from the Yemeni government.

>>Operation Everlasting Virtue” or something.<<

Yes!! Please, no offense to any of our military hero’s who have fought in these battles, but I too have always hated these names. I’ve always pictured some Harf type working in the press office of the Pentagon coming up with these names.

Not arguing but that damage is more from the burn than explosives

Similar end result

Except in Dresden architectural hipsters if there were any coulda have preserved the historical facades to incorporate into the rebuild

JDAM AND MOAB don’t leave cast iron facades and fancy moulding work intact

Course we’re more likely to use precision don’t hurt folks bombs

Strange world no?

Massive tunnel busters and remote piloted missles and fighter bomber video game like force delivery

Versus WWII fire tornados from 1000s of bombs

Or good old fashioned B-52 carpet bombs in Arc Light which dropped on average 300 to 2000 sorties per month with 35000 and up pounds of ordnance per plane

Shock and Awe is a memory

It does appear that the damage from USAAC indeed did more damage with conventional bombing in WII

BUT WASNT MORE TONNAGE DROPPED IN INDOCHINA

Interesting analysis - Does this mean Iran essentially “won”.

I used to live in Yemen. This won't be like invading Russia or Germany.

Which will it more closely resemble? Vienna? Or Stalingrad?

My first thought was Haiti, but Yemen does have more guns than that, less organization and infrastructure but they do have more AK-47s.

Essentially Iran has achieved a tactical success. The Shi’ite tribesmen have displaced the Saudi backed local Sunnis. The Saudis are not capable of a successful ground operation. Yemen is dirt poor and imports most of its food. Soon there will be well publicized displays of human misery (blamed on the bombing). Iran will run the blockade with ships loaded initially with food and humanitarian supplies and attempt to consolidate their gain. Very bad and destabilizing loss for the Saudi royals. Will create much grumbling within Sunni circles.

Why do some of you here at Free Republic feel the need to copy and paste the same article before you make comments. It is redundant, annoying and disrespectful to everyone who does take the time to post an article and read the articles.

So much bs out there. So who is correct?

The latest FoxNews on 4/22/15 shows that the Saudis have resumed air strikes against Yemen rebels.

” after three days of heavy bombardment by the RAF and USAAC”

I’m pretty sure that should be USAAF (we sure do discuss weighty issues around here).

The US Army Air Corp was predecessor to the US Army Air Force, which was created in June of 1941. The Air Corp name existed in some fashion until 1947 when the USAAF was spun off as its own service but I can’t find where the designation USAAC was still used after 1941.

Seriously? Seriously? Do you think that Saudi Arabia is now completely comfortable with a Shia insurgency established on their southern border? One that has been strong enough to overthrow the Yemeni government? And this with a significant Shia minority in their own country?
It’s time to put some serious thought into all of this. They are ready for another phase.Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt here. They are in a life & death stand-off with Iran, so I don’t think they have decided to now suddenly sit back and be complacent.

You are probably correct the source had it as USAAF but I thought it was Air Corp so I changed it. My bad. Thanks for the correction.
