6 Somali-Americans Arrested in ISIS Recruiting Case

WASHINGTON — Six young Somali-American men were arrested on Sunday in what may be the largest case to date involving recruiting in the United States for the Islamic State, law enforcement officials said on Monday.

All six are Somali-Americans ages 19 to 21, the officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity before a news conference planned in Minneapolis on Monday morning to announce the charges. Four men were arrested in Minneapolis and two in San Diego, they said.

A few dozen Americans have traveled or tried to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State, also known as ISIL or ISIS. Those whose plans were discovered by the F.B.I. have been arrested, usually at an American airport as they tried to board a flight, and charged with supporting a terrorist organization.

They have been a diverse group, including many women, with ages ranging from the early teens to late 40s, and comprising both converts to Islam and children from Muslim immigrant families. The largest single group, however, has consisted of Somali-Americans from Minnesota, which experienced a previous wave of young men departing to fight with the Shabab, a Qaeda affiliate in Somalia.

The F.B.I. has been investigating how the Islamic State’s recruiting has worked, and whether the sophisticated terrorist group’s social media campaign is supplemented by face-to-face recruiting on the ground in the United States.

In Minneapolis, one case that has drawn national attention involved two young men who planned their trip to Syria together last May but then experienced different fates. Abdi Nur, then 20, managed to reach Syria, where he has periodically posted online photos and messages about his life with the Islamic State.

"You can’t get rid of hornets one at a time. You must destroy the nests."

Okay. I'm open to suggestions. Unlike Egypt's military coup who got rid of Morsi/Muslim Brotherhood and installed el-Sisi, what are our alternatives? A military coup will never happen in the USA.

BTW, it must irk Muslim Brotherhood supporters Obambi and Valerie Jarrett that el-Sisi actually wished Christians well on Easter. Gave me a big smile. That's a leader of peace. That is an ally.

Guerrilla warfare? The V.C. wore us down with it. I knew those urban camos would come in handy some day. :^)

Got new name for Obambi - Obungler. Could there not be any better definition of his domestic and foreign policies?

bungle:
verb bun·gle: to make mistakes in doing (something): to not do (something) well or successfully.

Bungler is the noun: Obungler is the definition of that.

Someone please tell me something that Obungler has not bungled. I dare you to find one instance.

You probably don't want to go further with your implication about camos.

NO, the V.C didn't wear us down. On another thread we discussed the fact that after the Tet Offensive in 1968 (that we won), the Viet Cong were descimated. Even the top NVA general (General Giap) said in his memoirs that after destroying the Viet Cong and putting the hurt to the North Vietnam Army, he stated it was a lost cost for his side and was ready to concede. Google General Giap if you don't believe me.

It wasn't until Cronkite lied that we lost the Tet Offensive which futher encouraged the hippie movement and Giap re-thought his position. We were winning against the scourge of communism, and yes it is a scourge. I've witnessed it personally back in the late '60's. It is a disinsentive against basic human initiative. That's why all hippie communes failed.

Yes, I know. I'm preaching to choir, but I have first hand knowledge as to why the socialists/communists keep thinking it can work, and yet doesn't.

As Margaret Thatcher has been quoted and misquoted, "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money [to spend]." or "Eventually, Socialists run out of other peoples' money [to spend]." However, she and Ronald Reagan created the most prosperous time in Western civilization and destroyed the evil Soviet Union.

Now, we have its cousin, socialism, within our own Republic destroying us.

Maybe worn down was a poor phrasing of what I meant. There just seemed to be an endless supply of the bastards. And you never were sure who they were. One of the barbers from the PX was shot in the perimeter wire one night - I have pictures. That guy used to crack my neck for me when I went for a haircut.

All I’m saying is a resistance force who knows their own territory is hard to defeat.
