LONDON — A major search-and-rescue operation was underway Sunday after a migrant boat with up to 700 on board capsized in Libyan waters, south of Italy.
Twenty-eight people have been rescued, while 24 bodies have been recovered, the Italian coast guard said on Twitter.
If confirmed, the disaster would be one of the worst seen during the decades-long migrant crisis in the southern Mediterranean, and would bring the total number of dead since the beginning of the year to more than 1,500.

The Euros have navies,
The best thing to do is to set up an interdiction cordon off the North African coast.
Turn the invaders back before they get out of sight of land.
They shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
So how many Christians did they throw overboard in an attempt to save themselves?
The EU enables what’s happening by welcoming migrants. It’s not good for Europe, it’s not good for those who are escaping and end up dead, and it’s not good that northern Africa is being depopulated of decent, civilized people.
They have that, and have done that... They are broke now, and have cut off support to such operations.
Decent, civilized people don’t migrate to another country, then get involved with terror cells; they don’t drown other migrants who happen to be Christian. Let them stay in northern Africa and get either get civilized there, or kill each other off, before migrating to Europe.
The whole situation is hideous.
And by far most of these immigrants are young males. So that means they're either going to eventually import their wives and kids (so triple the numbers) or they're going to be a continuing unemployed-unemployable-unassimilable-turbulent underclass in Milan, Marseilles, and Malmo.
What to do? Have no clue. What would "justice for all" look like?
I suspect an Italian underwater demolition team.

That is probably what caused the boat to capsize. Too many people on one side trying to throw the Christians overboard.
My thought as well.
In ‘less enlightened’ times these were properly called invasions and properly repelled with unambiguous force.

No mention of weather conditions playing any part in the capsize of this vessel.
Perhaps it was a result of attempted repeat cleansing of non-Muslim passengers (4/16) ...aka poetic justice?
Why is that so hard for them to grasp?
This tragedy may force them to finally act.
Sad loss of life, but maybe a few more big sinkings will discourage future decisions to try to sneak into Europe. These people are fleeing their native lands due to disorder and economic collapses, all basically caused by their own governments. These places won’t get better until their inhabitants take efforts to solve their own problems.
We in the west have some problems of our own and should not to try to solve or help these failed states. A strong USA that can protect itself is a better answer. Not the protection offered by the Home Land Security Agency dog & pony show. A government by & for the people that works to be efficient, has a military to defend, not meet gender & sex quotas and stays out of matters best left to we hard working people, businesses & the 50 states.

This is not an American problem...
We have plenty of our own issues where those two have blood all over themselves..
The Leftists in Europe will "act" and force their Navies to pick these people up and bring them over.
Absolutely horrible - that fact seems to be lost on some of those commenting; many of whom probably call themselves Christians....
