Former Obama pilot: TWA Flight 800 was not blown up by a faulty fuel tank; it was shot down.

Was TWA Flight 800 shot out of the sky?

As a former pilot, that is a question I get asked about all the time.

I’m no conspiracy theorist, but let’s be clear: Yes. I say it was. And I believe the FBI covered it up.

LOOK BACK: REPORTING THE CRASH OF TWA FLIGHT 800 ON JULY 17, 1996

There are many reasons to disbelieve the official explanation of what happened to TWA 800 almost 19 years ago, on July 17, 1996, off the South Shore of Long Island. There’s hardly an airline pilot among the hundreds I know who buys the official explanation — that it was a fuel-tank explosion — offered by the National Transportation Safety Board some four years later.

Lots can go wrong with an airplane. Engines can fail; they can catch fire. Devices can malfunction. Pilots make errors.

But jets do not explode in midair.

If they do, it’s usually because they’ve been shot down or bombed. There’s little to suggest that there was a bomb onboard, but there is ample evidence that a missile of some sort detonated in the air very close to the plane and brought it down.

A former colleague, who will remain unnamed because he was not authorized to speak publicly about this, served as one of the lead investigators representing the interests of the TWA pilots, and I talked to him at length about the investigation after it was completed.

I have also spoken with another former TWA employee, who has knowledge of what went on in the aftermath of the crash.

If I’m not mistaken I believe there were about 150 credible witnesses that said they saw it get shot down. According to the FBI themselves.

Mostly likely a Navy Submarine (by mistake of course), possibly a terrorist attack.

Submarines don't have surface to air missiles, for obvious reasons. Shooting it off gives away their position. And how would a submerged submarine know there was an airplane around to shoot at and how would they aim the missile?

What I don’t understand is how they could keep that many people quiet about it. I’d bet there are over a hundred who either know of the cover-up or have direct knowledge of the cause. It’s astonishing considering how incredible the official explanation is.

No, there's not. This would have left visible evidence in the parts of the plane. The parts were fully recovered and nothing like this was found.

In contrast the parts of the Malaysian plane shot down in Ukraine do show evidence of a missile attack.

One night I flew into Boston and arrived around midnight. By the time I got to my hotel, and turned on the TV, the news was all over that a plane went down off of cape cod. TV crews were all over the beaches talking to witnesses. And all of the witnesses described a plane that was not to high, still climbing. And a streak of light coming from the ocean surface up to the plane, an explosion and half the plane falling followed by the other half. This was repeated several times by several TV stations and witnesses.

In the morning when I awoke, the story was different. They said that people did not see a streak of light. That that was just an illusion. And that the plane must have exploded. The witnesses were all gone. And every station had the same story. The plane fuel tanks exploded.

I never believed that this plane wasn’t shot down. It was too easy for a boat to sit out in the sound and fire a shoulder launched missile off a boat. Years later another story came out that the US military (navy or coast guard) was practicing with live rounds and shot it down by mistake.
I don’t know which is true. But I am sure that something shot this plane down and there were lots of people who saw it.

Submarines can surface and they definitely can launch nuclear weapons. But you could be right - I'm certainly no expert.

But I assume there are Navy ships that are capable of launching a SAM and, as I recall, there was a Naval exercise being conducted in the area at the time of the shoot-down.

If I remember correctly, the FBI, after they took over the investigation, conducted searches of all marinas in the area.
It was reported that a fairly large boat (35-38 ft) was missing from a NY marina, and was never found.
They wrote it off to be stolen by unnamed drug runners.
Many of the eyewitnesses said the “flare” came up from off shore.

Lots & lots of eye-witnesses that I believe far more than government accounts.

George Stephanopoulis admitted the same thing during a television interview, and mentioned how flight 800 was shot down by a missile. The look on his face when he realized that he had let the cat out of the bag was priceless. Don’t believe me, look it up.

Submarines rely on stealth. If they surface then they lose that stealth and they are nothing but a highly vulnerable target.

But I assume there are Navy ships that are capable of launching a SAM and, as I recall, there was a Naval exercise being conducted in the area at the time of the shoot-down.

Then you would have to believe that the Navy was so incredibly stupid as to shoot a missile into the most packed, highly trafficked air corridor in the world. Having spent many, many years in the armed forces I can attest that the military is sometimes ponderous, often bureaucratic, but it isn't criminally stupid. No matter what people may want to think.

Nope. It would have been a tragic mistake. Those do happen. Or, maybe more likely, it could have been a terrorist with a SAM missile. But you don't buy those at your typical yard sale.

So what happened? A missile shot TWA 800 down and it was covered up. I rate the possibility of that scenario at 99%+. It was such an obvious cover-up. Hundreds of witnesses saw the launch and the explosion.

If you have a better explanation you should post it.

I was living in NYC when this happened, and one thing that disappeared from the press almost immediately was that PanAm 800 was actually not supposed to be in that slot. The plane that was supposed to fly was an El Al flight to Tel Aviv.

For some reason, the El Al flight missed its slot on the in the take-off line because it had developed a problem or because a late passenger had delayed it (I don’t remember which, but I think ultimately it left just after Pan Am 800).

So I think they were actually aiming for the El Al flight.

Everybody got the word. I remember when they found rocket launching gear in the dunes on Jones Beach about two days afterwards...and then we were told it was just for large 4th of July fireworks!

I don’t know how high the plane was, but if you’ve ever gone out of JFK en route to Southern Europe or other southern destinations (which I used to do all the time), you come out low, fly along Long Island, and then loop out over the ocean. In other words, normally, they would have been low enough for somebody on the ground to get them. Heck, I could practically count the dune grass half the time when we flew out of JFK.

There is a youtube of this now. You can Google George Stephanopoulis flight TWA 800. George says the President was in the situation room for the flight TWA 800 bombing. That’s interesting.

It was low enough that the witnesses clearly described the plane being cut in half and the front part falling first before the back part. You can’t see that from the ground if your 30,000 ft up.
