“The reason for the construction was to add a sidewalk to the road...
Or maybe a bike path?”
i don’t doubt it
have a look on google street view, who is going to bicycle on that road ?
not to mention the huge hill...
I was living in Silicon Valley during the quake that brought down part of the freeway in Oakland. For a long time afterwards, driving under underpasses made me flinch.
Plus I lived around LA during the freeway shootings in Los Angeles, making it a point never to let anyone match my speed and drive alongside me on multiple lane roads. I remember a bumper sticker from those days: Honk If You’re Reloading.
I used to wonder if boaters on the Mystic River had to watch out for chunks of concrete or steel falling off the rotting Tobin Bridge in Boston. I hated getting stuck in traffic on the bridge, especially next to a bus or large truck. I’d swear to this day that bridge was shaking, and it was a long way down.
False work and a K rail fell off the bridge roadway above. It has nothing to do with bridges and old concrete. to move that someone above had to hit the 40’ K rail.
Thanks for the info but if it’s just a question of EPA permits before the TARP money is released then why is Congress using the excuse “repairing our national infrastructure” to raise taxes for a purpose that already has money allotted? I know, that’s how our government works but this taxing scam is too obvious.
Governments have an insatiable desire for money. It comes with the territory.
It’s stuff like this that I worry about the most while driving. Not necessarily concrete, but I drive with those huge trucks that often have huge, heavy things strapped on them. Construction material, other trucks, who knows what. Even those trucks that carry a bunch of cars on them.
I told hubby I always try to never be behind them or beside them, and I’m always checking out the straps to make sure they look secure. I think he though I was silly, but he didn’t say it to my face.
IMO, that’s basic common sense. Know what’s in front of you, keep a good distance from risky objects, and change lanes, pass, or fall back significantly if you see something really worrisome.
Truly tragic. At least someone is going to be extremely rich from the civil suit.
I’m choked up and blurry-eyed - I can barely see to type
