LEESBURG, Ga. —A man shot an armadillo, but the bullet ricocheted off the armadillo and struck his mother-in-law.

Investigators say that Larry McElroy fired a pistol at the armadillo Sunday night, WALB-TV reports.

The bullet killed the armadillo but ricocheted off of it, hit a fence, went through the back door of Carol Johnson's mobile home and hit the chair in which she was sitting, hitting her in the back, The Associated Press reports.

Johnson's wounds are not life-threatening, the AP reports.

A pistol round?

Moron.

It’s armored and requires at lest a .30 caliber rifle round...

Thanks for the info. Didn’t know about the digging in the yard. That’s a game stopper right there, especially when it’s being done by a mini-dinosaur. If I cooked one I think I’d try doing it on the half-shell - but what temperature do you have to reach to kill the leprosy? LOL!

Also, are you saying armadillos - always - give birth to identical twins, triplets or whatever?

A pistol round?

Any bets it was a .380 or .22? A properly placed 9mm, 40call or 45ACP would not ricochet off an armadillo. They are not made of steel.

“The nine-banded armadillo also serves science through its unusual reproductive system, in which four genetically identical offspring are born, the result of one original egg. Because they are always genetically identical, the group of four young provides a good subject for scientific, behavioral or medical tests that need consistent biological and genetic makeup in the test subjects. This is the only reliable manifestation of polyembryony in the class Mammalia, and only exists within the genus Dasypus and not in all armadillos, as is commonly believed. Other species that display this trait include parasitoid wasps, certain flatworms and various aquatic invertebrates.”

Yes they are pest.

Hell on your houses foundation especially if you have block and beam.

You can eat them and were called Hoover hogs during the depression.

I heard it years ago from a worker at the Houston Zoo. It was so interesting, it stuck with me.

I might have used something bigger than a .22 to kill them but I’ve never need anything bigger than a .22 to kill them.

ARMADILLO RECIPES

Cooked armadillo is quite common down here in Texas ... you can find them at almost all gourmet Aggie restaurants ... they're on the menu as Possum on Half Shell.

Why shoot armadillos? Aren’t they just herbivores?

LOL

NO. My friend in Oklahoman use to use a .22 rifle and once, he shot one and we saw a puff of white stuff come off it.

We started laughing, he took aim again and it fell.

After picking it up, we noted where the 1st round hit and it knocked of some scales.

Pretty funny.

His mom made a dinner out of it.

I did not eat it.
