The GOP's plan to turn Hillary into Mitt Romney
Politico ^ | April 14, 2015 | Ed Stokols

Republicans are readying a familiar template: The out-of-touch plutocrat who lives in a world of private planes, chauffeured vehicles and million-dollar homes.

Forget about the Arkansas days, the small-bore scandals, her health care plan, and most everything else from the 1990s. A consensus is forming within the Republican Party that the plan of attack against Hillary Clinton should be of a more recent vintage, rooted in her accumulation of wealth and designed to frame her as removed from the concerns of average Americans.

With close to 20 announced and prospective GOP 2016 candidates, there’s no singular, unified messaging effort yet. But interviews with GOP consultants, party officials and the largest conservative super PACs point to an emerging narrative of a wealthy, out-of-touch candidate who plays by her own set of rules and lives in a world of private planes, chauffeured vehicles and million-dollar homes.

The out-of-touch plutocrat template is a familiar one: Democrats used it to devastating effect against Republican Mitt Romney in 2012.

[Hillary] explained that she and Bill Clinton earned their millions “through dint of hard work.”

“Who talks like that?” said GOP strategist Kevin Madden, who advised Romney’s campaign in 2012. “Most Americans don’t understand accumulating millions in wealth through speaking fees. Hillary Clinton has not driven a car in this century; how can she relate to the cost of gas? How can she relate to rising food prices when she doesn’t shop for herself?”

[Snip]

Operatives worry that over-the-top attacks — namely, references to her age or the Monica Lewinsky scandal — will simply serve to generate sympathy for Clinton.

“That wasn’t Hillary; that was Bill,” said Jamie Burnett, a GOP operative in New Hampshire. “We’re trying to beat Hillary, not make people feel sorry for her.”

actually they are, with the Clinton Global Initiative fund which they use for their own personal slush fund. That sits at 2 billion dollars. Clintons are worth over 100 million in personal wealth. Romney was worth 150 million in wealth, holdings and interests in companies. Clintons is cash wealth. You can do the math

This only works, ONLY works, if Jeb Bush isn’t the nominee.

You need a Cruz or a Walker for it to work. If you’ve invested over a year of time effort and messaging pushing the “plutocrat” line and Jeb’s the nominee ... it all goes up in smoke.

Either these GOPers are idiots, or they’re thinking Jeb won’t be the nominee.

If one considers the “Clinton Foundation” slush fund, the grifters are far, far wealthier than Romney who earned his wealth legally.

Clintons at 100 million, Romney at 250 million.

You are wrong to say that they are 5 times wealthier than the Romneys.

Romney has dropped over 50 million dollars of his own money on his campaigns, and it hasn’t hurt him.

Why not go for the jugliar and portray her as an enabler of rape?

That didn't work with the actual rapist. Why would it work with the enabler?

I don’t know how well it will work. There are people out there who hate the “corporate rich” but will tolerate rich politicians like the Kennedys or Gore or Kerry or Bloomberg. You can nibble away at Hillary’s support by bringing up the private planes, speaking fees, and privilege, but last time the Democrats tore off large chunks out of Romney’s potential support with the rich corporate White guy theme.

So you can’t find a reputable source that puts their total wealth at 2 billion dollars?

Except Romney has actually had some success in his life.

Clinton Global Initiative fund sits at 2 billion dollars. The Clintons use this as a slush fund for their pleasure.

When you find a reputable source for their personal wealth being in the billions, post it.

Actually, it could work if Hillary keeps complaining about executive salaries and her husband keeps getting $200,000 per speech, but you can count on the media to keep quiet about things like that.
