Ohio zoo: Mom dangling toddler over cheetah pit when he fell (Cleveland, Ohio)

A woman was dangling her 2-year-old son over a railing at the Cleveland zoo when he fell about 10 feet into a cheetah exhibit, zoo officials said.

The toddler’s parents jumped in and pulled him to safety Saturday afternoon. He was treated at a hospital for a few bumps and bruises, said Cleveland Fire Department spokesman Larry Gray.

The cheetahs didn’t go toward the boy or his parents, said Chris Kuhar, executive director of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Several eyewitnesses saw the woman holding the child over the railing, Kuhar said in a statement. “While this incident is disturbing to everyone, we are glad injuries were not any more severe,” he said.

Cleveland Metroparks plans to seek child endangering charges against the mother on Monday, he said.

Nobody should get hurt falling into a pit of crunchy cheese flavored snacks.

Says you! The poor child could have been lactose intolerant or had a cheese allergy!

Makes you wonder if the press isn’t hiding something. Must either be a liberal or a minority. If it was a white person we would see a lot of photos/videos.

What the Headline should have been: 'Moronic Obama voter dangled non aborted fetus over fence at Non-PETA approved place.'

The parents sounds like Obama supporters.

Same thing happened at the Pittsburgh Zoo five years ago. Not as happy an ending, as the toddler who was dangled got torn apart by a pack of wild African dogs.

“Darwin thwarted.”

Not thwarted. I expect the Darwin winner will now sue the zoo for permitting her to do this.

A female commentary attorney on FoxNews said it was probably the mom grabbing the child and saving him because he jumped out of her arms, not that the mom was dangling the child over the railing.

[Unbelievable twisted rationale, but that is what trial attorneys do.]

[Likely, someone has video. It is difficult to be anywhere or do anything without someone with a smartphone recording it.]

Unbelievable twisted rationale ...

I'm not buying it, and I've had toddlers do some incredibly dumb things.

I kinda wonder why the eyewitnesses didn’t do something before she dropped him.

Perhaps they did and it startled her, which made her drop the kid...

Darwin thwarted.

Yes, by the cheetahs not eating the mother.

"Cheetahs rarely attack humans. It happens, but not nearly as often as one would think."

That's true. They're also not very physically strong.

But I'm a bit surprised they didn't view a two year-old as a small snack, considering that's about the aize of their normal prey. And it would have been that stupid woman's fault.

This video is not of the attorney, but tells the story as well as a story about “free range” parents from Maryland.

The cheetahs didn’t go toward the boy or his parents, said Chris Kuhar, executive director of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Cheetahs never win.
