You might think youre prepared to respond to any threats that might come your way but the odds are, you arent prepared enough to satisfy Kyle Lamb.
Lamb is a retired Delta Force sergeant major who served 21 years in the Army, mostly with U.S. Army Special Operations. He now runs Viking Tactics, which offers tactical firearms instruction and consulting. Needless to say, he knows prepared.
Speaking to a packed room of gun owners at the National Rifle Associations annual meeting on Friday, Lamb offered a crash course in preparedness in the face of unexpected personal danger. The military veteran, who served five combat tours in Iraq, was as thorough on the subject as he was politically incorrect.
The Survival Mindset seminar included several components that many people just dont think about like being prepared for the sounds a human being makes after being shot. Much of the information Lamb passed down he learned from his experiences in combat.
If youre offended by the word combat its America. Theres the door, Lamb told the audience, pointing his finger towards the door. He received prolonged applause for the line.
A key part of being ready to efficiently handle any threat that may sneak up on you, he said, is being prepared for three phases of combat: Before, during and after.
Lamb said he conducts a mental rehearsal every morning, during which he contemplates what he would do if he found himself in a life-threatening situation. Another important aspect of this process, he said, is making sure your tools including firearms are ready and available.
Further, the combat mindset means facing reality and taking the responsibility of carrying a gun seriously, he continued. But its also about understanding why you carry it and realizing you might have to use it.
I dont take that very lightly, and I hope you dont either, he said.

Lamb seemingly caught a number of people off guard when he dedicated an entire slide to one question: What do people sound like when they are shot?
Recalling a combat incident where one of his fellow Americans had been shot, Lamb said, Were trying to take care of him and Im listening to those sounds that hes making and its disturbing,
However, I was prepared for that because I knew going into it what I was getting myself into, he added.
But at a different time, when he shot a bear while hunting and heard the animal let out a death squall that echoed through the mountains, it made him sick to his stomach because he didnt prepare for it. The importance of mental preparedness is vital, according to the veteran.
Here are a few other key points from Lambs presentation:
Gunfighting skills are not circus tricks train for realistic situations
Train frequently
Practice shooting on the move
Prepare to engage multiple targets
Visualize and think through possible scenarios you might deal with
Sharpen skills with a secondary weapon
Basic physical fitness is part of being prepared
Rest assured, theres much more to Lambs preparedness seminar. Its better to listen to him explain:

Lamb also took a passionate position on open carry. When he asked attendees if open carry is responsible, several of them replied, no.
I understand, some folks want to open carry to prove a point, but Im going to tell you something right now. If Im sitting at the local Dairy Queen and some dude in Bermuda shorts and a Dont Tread on Me t-shirt walks in with an AK slung around his neck, theres going to be freaking problems, Lamb said.
First of all, I perceive that as a threat, he continued. Second of all, the business people perceive that as a threat. Third, they dont want to see that and youve told everyone that youre carrying a gun. Dog gone folks, please, youre killing me. Now weve lost our right to carry at several of those establishments. I dont feel thats being responsible. Thats me.

I’m not everyone.
Sounds wonderful. What non-firearms ways do you suggest for dealing with a murderous dictatorship police state ? We’re sincerely interested. Thank you
I frequently make up situations in my mind when I would need to use that weapon so I am prepared already when one of those situations happens. Mental preparedness is vital so one doesn't hesitate using the weapon - hesitation will get you killed.
Never use a firearm to try to threaten instead of pulling the trigger. Doing that will also get you killed. If my firearm is in my hand, I'm pulling the trigger more than once right then.
Someone sent me a situation that happened in Florida. A cop and his police dog were killed. Cops caught up with the killer and killer fire gun at those cops. After that was over, a reporter asked the sheriff why they shot the killer 68 times. The sheriff said, “We ran out of bullets.”
The coroner listed the death as a natural death. He was asked why that was the reason. Coroner said, “If you get shot 68 times, you are naturally going to die.”
“Procrastination will get you killed.”
I “ain’t” going to procrastinate. See my post 43.
THERE you are. I got worries boutchoo.
I live with someone who worked in the Pentagon - think secret stuff, and one of his family members works for the NSA right now. I might as well say I have a handgun and rifles because this house is likely bugged and phone conservations recorded. :o)
I’ll mention your name in a phone conservation so you will be targeted, too. :o) No need to thank me for doing this. :o)
That is so kind and thoughtful of you.
“That is so kind and thoughtful of you.”
Well, Laz is always saying, “I am so screwed.” I’m making sure he IS screwed, being watched and recorded. :o)
I used to be undecided, now I’m not so sure about that.

What missing is a ROGUE republican Congress..
Fully complicit.. as guilty if not MORE guilty than Obama..
Obama is doing what he promised to do...
The republican congress is doing what they promised NOT TO DO..
Actively daily in your face.. ON PURPOSE..
Later
What do you have planned?
Why? If it's just a tool, why is someone carrying a tool a threat? Because you don't like their political statement?
I live on an island in Alaska. We are always well stocked with supplies because you never know when the barge won’t show up or the weather will keep you from leaving. There is plenty of wild fish and game. We grow some vegetables in green houses. We all have guns and boats and we know who belongs here and who does not. Anyone who comes in must come by boat or floatplane. Added bonus: My boat will take me anywhere in the world I want to go. Australia? Pitcairn? Tonga? No problem. In extreme circumstances, I can stay at sea for a year if necessary.
GOOD 4 U!
Island, eh?
That sounds Great!
Thanks...
Sounds like you have it pretty well covered. First thing I tell folks is don’t live in or near a city.
