What kind of ammunition will not kill the carrion eating condors?
Environmentalists, on the other hand, are saying these regulations will save California Condors and Golden Eagles from getting lead poisoning.
Huh? Isn’t it against the law to hunt either one of those species? We know both of these species are for the most part scavengers and feed on dead animals. Most hunters I know don’t go out in the field, shoot, and just leave their kills all over the place. Stupid lefties. The only lead poisoning we need to worry about is in these people’s brains!
I’m thinking something like spitballs on steroids.
I imagine it’s like loons in the Northeast, where they’ve found the lead in the carcasses of the birds.
Unintended consequence: M855A2 amo and the like come into high demand, enough to make it viable on the civilian market.
“A bill that designated lead-free hunting zones was signed into law by former Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007. By 2008, California hunters could not use ammunition containing more than one percent lead by weight within range of California condors.”
Vote for Arnold! Because he can win!
So reload with stainless steel shot and bullets turn your own calibre super bore your rifles problem solved
they are creating there own problems these environmentalist wacko’s
Are not non-led bullets “armor piercing” and thus “cop killers?”
I am wary of these environmental scare studies. Remember when Rachel Carson claimed that DDT was causing bird deaths and her "studies" led to a complete ban of DDT? Turns out she had faked her data, yet the DDT ban stayed in place leading to the death of millions due to malaria as DDT was the best and cheapest way to kill malaria carrying mosquitoes.
> Lead can cause brain damage in animals shot by lead bullets
And a liberal would pause for a sec and say, “hey”! on that one
I would like to see Bixby Bridge and the redwoods one last time.
“The federal government is preventing companies from making non-lead bullets”
Barnes has been manufacturing solid copper bullets for many years and still is.
There are solid copper hollow point bullets and work very well as a hunting bullet. However, they cost about twice as much as jacketed lead bullets.
A couple of typical sources:

Alternatives to lead will likely destroy gun barrels and they know it.
We spend tons of money trying to keep an animal alive that just wasn’t meant to be living in this day and age. The days of large carcass’s laying around from predator kill’s is long gone. Smaller predators and scavengers clean a recent kill to the bone leaving little if nothing for the Condor. The state takes road kill out to the nesting area’s, hunters leave the remains of their game in the field. There’s more food available than they need and still can’t increase the population to a sustainable level. They can no longer compete with other scavengers. If the only way for this bird to survive is through man’s influence then it’s time to let it go and stop wasting money.

You think Barnes might have padded a few pockets to see this ban go through?
I recall being amazed at how often that slogan showed up on this board during the gubernatorial recall campaign back in 2003. But you can't blame me, because I voted for Tom McClintock.
Maybe it is time for all CA hunters to take a year off and not buy licenses, permits, merchandise, lodging and all of the other things that go into a hunting trip. Maybe the pols will see and hear the loss of revenue from this group.
I also suspect the water source and environment has allot to do with high lead level’s. We’re talking gold and silver country and high amounts of lead is found also. I’ll bet every animal in the area shows higher than normal lead levels. I seriously doubt the studies.
